I agree a set number is dumb. Some classes have more actual five stars than others and vice versa. If a kids a five star it should be based on criteria not because their is an actual set number the staff has to meet. Pretty much just lessens the value of 5 star having a set number.

The 32 5* rule only makes sense if all players played 4 years before they went to the draft. I'm not going to waste my time doing it but I bet you would be hard pressed to find a single recruiting class where they had exactly 32 1st rounders in it. Some classes are better and have more 1st rounders some classes are worse and have few first rounders.

Basically as a poster mentioned earlier this just changes the interpretation of the stars. It changes from ranking is directly proportional to ability to get drafted, to ranking = Top 32, Top ..., Top ..., and so on. Essentially it means a five star in one class is not the same as a five star in another class. In a week class the 32nd ranked player one year may be the 50th ranked player dropping him to a 4 star (the same player, with the same talent, with the same potential to get drafted).

It does make sense to me to have over a 4 year span around 128 (32 X 4) five stars. I'm just not sold on the idea of accomplishing that by having exactly 32 in each class.

It just seems like the analyst are putting restraints and regulations that will only handicap their scouting abilities. I guess the only true way to judge this will be in 4 years. Well see how many misses they had before compared to the misses since the change. May be more, may be less.
