  • Kerr says this is the best defensive in the league when they want to be. He can't be serious. Indiana? Chicago?

Ps anyone watch halftime tonight?? Priceless!

  • Lebron is just that dude.

No way they don't repeat this year. They are just too good.

The quickness and length the heat have puts them ahead imo. When they are giving their best effort teams struggle to pass half court against them.

  • I'll give them superior perimeter defense. Team defense is a whole other story. If the lakers had Phil Jackson coaching this team right now they would embarrass a roster like they played tonight. It would have been pound the ball inside to dwight and Pau all night. The team that beats the Heat in a series though is the team that can share the ball, play inside out and dominate the boards. There are only a couple of teams that can do that.

To me its funny the Lakers signed Dantoni because the heat are built to play that kind of ball. If you are thinking championship, go hire the guy who can exploit your enemies weakness. Buss Jr. is a retard.

  • Lakers had no chance regardless of who is coaching them. Their roster is ancient, they can't play defense because they can't stay in front of athletic guys. And they sure as hell can't run.

The Finals last year showed everyone that athleticism is the name of the game. OKC, Miami, LAC just more athletic than everyone else. LAL are going to get absolutely wiped in the playoffs, if they even get there.

Lebron is just sick. That no look bounce pass to Wade was ridiculous.

The old roster argument is weak. Knicks old, Heat older. Its easy to say, but it doesn't work out when you break it down. They have two of the most dominant 5's in the league and do not use them properly.

Except it does work out when you break it down.

Lakers get out athleticted in nearly every loss.

"Old" has little to do with average age. The Lakers biggest contributors are much older than the Heat's and Knicks biggest contributors. Howard is the only guy in his prime age for the Lakers, and he has a bad back.

Lakers main guys are Kobe 34, Nash 38, Howard 27 (still slowed by back), and Gasol 33. Average age of those is 33.
Heat main guys are Lebron 28, Bosh 28, Wade 31. For an average age of 29.
Knicks main guys are Melo 28, Chandler 30, JR Smith 27. Average age 28.33

So Lakers might be younger overall, but the core of the team, the skill of the team is much older than the teams you choose to list.

Lakers are old, slow, and not very athletic anymore. They have some pieces, but it will take time to gel, by then who knows how old and effective their roster will be.

    They aren't beating OKC.

  • Nash- 24 gms missed
    Pao- 13 gms missed
    Blake- 32 gms missed
    JHill- 10 gms missed

This is the main problem; which makes the old argument very valid for Nash, Pao, and Blake.

Lebron was getting to the hoop so easily last night. Rarely nights do you see him get so many uncontested lay-ins. And that is with Dwight and Gasol on the floor at different times.

Lakers problem is they don't have any real perimeter defenders outside of Kobe. Metta can't move laterally anymore, so anyone with some strength and speed with abuse him.

Chemistry is much much more important than athleticism.

Take Chalmers and Cole out, for at least 24+ gms.

Bosh out for 13-15?gms and Haslem out for 10 gms (Hill is gone for the yr), and you will see how it can disrupt schemes on defense and offense.

The Lakers starting 5 have probably played less than 10 gms together, so far, this season.

Are they a bad team? Yes, but the roster problems are secondary to the injury/chemistry problem.

I agree, it takes time and games together to gel. We saw that all too well with Miami and the Big 3.

That being said, even with great chemistry the Lakers still have major flaws as a team. They still lack consistent outside shooting, are very shallow, and like previously mentioned they are old.

The chemistry might be preventing the Lakers from being the playoffs right now, but I don't think it's what it is keeping them from being in title hunt. I think their roster is just flawed.

Oh yeah I agree with you there.

The chemistry issue is hindering their playoff chances, but the roster (especially in that system) will keep them out of the title hunt.

They're done for this yr, unless one of those bottom teams have injury problems down the stretch

Lakers are making the playoffs, let's not get this twisted; it's still early, real early. They have the type of team that can reel off 7, 8 or 9 in a row based on their roster.

I just think when it comes down to it, they don't have the depth to get out of the West.

Funny though, the team that provides the biggest mismatches against the Heat likely won't get far enough to challenge them.

Clippers perhaps are biggest mismtach, but I'd still say Lakers.

Clippers just might be the best team, right now, but they haven't shown that they can stay healthy through an entire season.

I'm not sold on Nash or Pao staying healthy, from here on out. DHoward is a liability in close gms. Any time he touches the ball late in the 4th, it's essentially a turnover, because he's gonna miss the ft.

To put it in perspective, the Rockets (8th seed) are in the middle of a 5 gm losing streak. They still are 4 up in the win column (21), and up 3 in the loss column (19).

    Lakers are in trouble

I agree they won't beat OKC. I just think there are ways for this team to succeed. Their style if play will be the end if them. They are wasting their talent. Pau better be traded, he brings almost no value to this squad at this point. Maybe they can pull a K Love. He would be a perfect fit for the running style the lakers seem to want to play.

  • BIRDMAN signs 10 day deal with the Heat. Love the energy he brings when he comes on the floor. Hopefully he can have a positive effect and stay with the team.

Went to a game in Denver a couple years ago and the crowd would go wild when he ran over to the scorers table. Pretty rare for a guy that averages only 5 points a game. He's just fun to watch.

The Heat and Knicks are old on the bench and with their bigs. The Lakers are old in their backcourt, a much bigger problem
