Heisman Question

Texas has the same problem. Outstanding defense in a pass-heavy conference, offense with no pulse. Would have a great running game if any of the top 3 running backs could stay healthy

Yep, none of the Big 12 teams can stop the run with the exception of Texas and Oklahoma.

We've had the same 5 guys start all season with the exception of McCullough starting in the place of Steen and Jones when they were hurt.

I personally lost all ability to think when I fell out of my chair and hit my head on my desk when he listed Tyler Love as an example of our talent along the offensive line.

our OL not being able to get a consistent push is also a factor in our running-game problems as of late.

lol...I have no idea how many games Love played in in his career. Maybe 3 or4? And that was probably against Georgia State, North Texas twice, and someone like Western Kentucky.

I just looked it up. Love has played in 14 games in his career. I have no idea when he made an appearance. Probably when we kneeled the ball.

I didnt say they are horrible, I said they have less talent than Bama. That is not an insult, its the truth. Vlachos and Jones will be 1st or 2nd round picks, most likely both first. The Kouandjio Brothers, Tyler Love, McCulloch, and DJ Fluker. Should I go on? Wisky has a probable 1st rounder in Oglesby, and a couple lower round prospects. Ya, I watch the game. Im just not biased toward blind support for any of those teams or players that I mentioned

Probably not helping the cause, but oglesby is our worst OL and won't snif the first couple of lines. We have juniors on the line that are projected in the first couple of rounds. We may have one of the most talented lines in the country. What makes Ball different this year is the yards after contact and making people miss. People are also leaving TDs out of the equation. His totals are insane.

In my opinion, Ball isn't in the discussion because Wisconsin was pushing Russel Wilson for the Heisman.

thats rock solid logic right there...thats exactly why the heisman has become a joke recently.

I don't think it's right either. But for some reason the media believes a campaign has to pushed for one to be considered. The University of Alabama didn't push for Ingram to win the Heisman. The media was responsible for that. The same can be said for Trent.

The Heisman is a complete joke. I think TR should be the top RB in the race, but Ball deserves to be in NYC and D. Wilson should be mentioned more. In all honesty, R. Wilson should probably still win the award, if you ask me, but he won't and may not even be in NYC. If it wasn't for 2 hail mary's he would be the favorite. I guess he should have been in at DB on those plays.

Should be, IMO (if we are only awarding to offensive skill players):

    R. Wilson
    Richardson
    RG3
    Blackmon
    Ball

    Will be:
    Richardson/Luck
    RG3
    Moore

Luck is getting the lifetime acheivement nod, IMO. Anyone else would have been out of the race with that many turnovers down the stretch, especially when 3 of them came in his biggest game of the year. Hell, Denard Robinson looked better against Notre Dame than Luck did.

yeah, unless the media or the school pushes a story, little consideration will be given. A lot of players will be in New York that shouldn't be simply because of hype (i.e.- Luck)

  • What really ticked off a lot of people is when Mark Ingram won the Heisman over Suh. I can't say I blame them for being mad. If Ingram hadn't been a Bama player, I probably would have felt the same. It's stinks that there is a possibility that both Alabama Heisman winners could be looked at as not deserving enough.

I don't think Suh could really have made anymore of an argument that a lot of the defensive players that had been left out becuase they don't play with the ball in their hands.

That is an enitre different argument all together. Not one between players. There have been numerous defensive players that have been left out that should have won. If you look down the years in the rankings, pretty much every defensive player that finished in the top 6 or so deserved to win ahead of the offensive player that actually did.

  • Monte ball also has Russell Wilson spreading out the defense and keeping them from stacking the box, I like mcarron and all, but defenses have focused on taking Trent out of the game all year and try to make mcarron beat them.

I agree RGIII is a great player but I don't know how you can go against Trent Richardson this year. He put up great numbers on the road this year and against some of the best defenses in the country. He had 169 total yards against the 2nd best defense in the country in LSU.

The only D that was good was Lesticles.. The SEC is so overrated and 1/2 the teams suck ass!

Nice try, but you should try watching other football before talking. The box is always stacked against Wisconsin. No defenses are spread out.

My problem with Keenum isn't just that it is a pass happy O (like Harrell and TT), but they play nobody. Even worse than what Moore faces.

This argument is censored pathetic. Keenum is also playing with similar players on his own team. Point blank, Keenum would be the starter at both LSU and Alabama.

Alabama has played 5 teams in the Top 25 in Total Defense, 7 in the Top 50.

Agreed. Luck has been the #1 overall draft pick for the last TWO years according to ESPiN. So much hype, its overkill. He is a great prospect, but enough already. I think Wilson isnt really in the conversation anymore is the same reason you didnt like my picks of Ball or Wilson over Richardson. Opponents are pretty soft overall

You and BetterOff will probably jump all over this point of view, but hear me out. I understand that the SEC has 7 teams in the top 50 in total defense, but I think that is partially a product of the type and quality of offenses they play 80% of their games against. I saw Vandy, Miss St, Tenn, Florida all in the top 50 in total defense. Obviously LSU and Bama have badass defenses that can stand up to the best offense. But the total offense ranking for the SEC as a whole is horrid. Total Offense Ranks:
    Arkansas 28th
    Alabama 31st
    Georgia 34th
    LSU 62nd
    S. Carolina 75th
    Miss. St. 87th
    Vandy 96th
    Florida 101st
    Tenn. 102nd
    Auburn 104th
    Ole Miss 115th
    Kentucky 118th

Not taking anything away from the 2 truly outstanding teams at the top of the SEC, but the bottom 8 teams on that list have offenses that have been in disarray for most if not all of the season. They are not good, and playing each others low output offenses each week skews the defensive numbers, making them look better than they are. LSU is a perfect example of really good team. They have a middle of the pack offense, but their defense is actually that good that the offense does not need to be spectacular. Georgia and S. Carolina did not play the top offensive teams in the SEC this year, excepting each other. Their defensive rankings were accumulated playing against the lower quality teams in the SEC. Georgia lost to the only 2 really good teams it played this year I think they are solid teams, but not on the level of LSU and Bama, or even arky for that matter. S.Carolina lost to freakin Auburn, and got blown out by Arky.
A good counterpoint. Look at the Big-12. Lots of high-scoring, high-output offenses leading to horrible total defense rankings. Only Texas at #9 has a Top 50 defense. Im rambling, but the point was SEC defensive rankings are a mirage for all but the top few schools. Mostly Bad SEC offenses=Good Total defense rankings for teams that aren't too good. Mostly Bad Big 12 defenses=Good Total offense rankings for teams that aren't too good. My favorite team to pick on..... Future SEC team with a TERRIBLE defense, Texas A&M-----They will fit right in, at the bottom of the SEC West. Beat them like the red-headed step children they are lol hammer
