I don't really care about 3d or smart features although they might be nice to have. My main concern is watching football and movies and I can control the light in the room it will be in pretty well. I am concerned about the motion blur with the sharp and with the clarity of the LG. Just hoping some of yall might have one or the other and can rant and rave about what you have enough to help make the decision.

  • bobaftt,

Of the two options you listed I would go with the Plasma every time. But I would check out the 3D Panasonic Plasma's before buying.. You may end up paying a little more, but outside of the Pioneer Elite Kuro's (which are no longer around), Panasonic plasma's are arguably the best tv's on the market.

The cinematic look for watching movies is 2nd to none, and they're bright enough to look great when watching college football. And you don't have the "soap opera" effect that LEDs, Sony's, Samsung's and other sucky tv's have.

    Avoid the soap opera effect.

  • I have an led TV downstairs. It is the CMR 120hz I notice quite a bit of motion blur when a long pass is thrown.

    It's because it's a 120, I have the 240. shrug

If you go with an led I would recommend you get one that's 240hz. It will eliminate the blur in sports. Or get a plasma. Probably comparable price to a 240hz model. 240 costs more but if you watch sports i think its only way to go.

    Go bucky go

  • I am too cheap to spend the money for a 240hz LED and the Sharp is on sale for 700 bucks. The LG is on sale for 950.

Liked my Sony until it broke grumble

I will never buy another Sony. Their customer service, or lack thereof, is appalling.

Listen to the man. I have a 50 inch Panasonic Plasma that is a thing of beauty. I did a lot of research before buying.. They aren't very expensive either. Do it. Thank xterminator later.

Then I would go plasma. Otherwise you'll be disappointed.

  • I picked this one up yesterday. Samsung LED UN46ES6003.

    46"
    120Hz
    240 Clear Motion Rate
    1080i
    Surround Sound

I LOVE this TV. I wasn't looking for all the bells and whistles (Smart TV/3D) and this one suits what I wanted. Great sound and a great picture.

    Only $700 too.

  • I went with the plasma. I went and checked out a similar one at best buy and think I will be happy with it. turned out to be 940 with tax for a 60 inch smart 3d tv. Can't beat that I don't think

    bobaftt

  • I have a samsung plasma (50"), sharp aquous (60", led, wifi) and LG led (32").

The plasma has deeper blacks and is good for most things. It will probably be best for sports.

The sharp aquous @ 240hz, has some "lag" on the football when thrown, but you can alter that lag in your settings. Google it and there are plenty of sites w/ the exact setting you will need. The movies on the sharp aq are outstanding and the colors are more vivid.

I thought I would not like the wifi/smart tv too, but now I love it. Netflix and other apps (pandoro, vudu, etc) almost make me want to ditch satellite (in football offseason). I really like the smart tv now.

    Choose wisely and enjoy!

    What kind ? I wouldn't want a 3d but I'm definitely getting a smart TV when I move.
