Herbstreit got a local Columbus radio host fired

  • Full disclosure - I think Kirk Herbstreit is a complete turd. His absolutely awful analysis of the game of football aside, he is a vindictive guy who has more skeletons in his closet than you can imagine.

Recently a local Columbus radio host made an off the cuff comment about Desmond Howard:

“I wish Desmond Howard would get fired or die so I could watch GameDay again.”

Tasteless? Sure. Worthy of getting fired over? No way.

The local radio station is owned by ESPN and Herbstreit is doing everything in his "power" to get the guy fired. It's only a matter of time.

This guy always mocked Herbstreit in the past. Saying he was a fake Buckeye when all the Pryor stuff went down.

Herbstreit is obviously a very petty man who holds grudges.

  • I don't get what the big deal is. It's just one more unemployed Buckeye who lost his job for saying or doing something epically stupid. That happens every day.

  • Espn CFB coverage is truly a joke.. I mean. Lou Holtz? He's a homer and brings nothing, same with Mark May. I cant believe these are the best they can get to cover the best sport in the world. Unreal

  • Saying that you hope a person dies on the radio is absolutely grounds for getting fired. It's tasteless, immature and just a ridiculous thing to say.

Herbie is one of the few Bucks I respect, guy just seems to get it IMO. He puts his fanship for the Bucks behind other more important things in life.

That being said those "skeletons" you speak of I have no idea so I could be wrong.

  • Ohio state fans seem to treat the guy like crap. Didn't he have to move out of state because of tosu fans harassing his family? Classless.

Everyone I know that has met him has said he's a very nice guy.

Not only that, but it's a bit hypocritcal for Ohio fans to complain over someone trying to get the idiot fired when he literally said on-air he wished Desmond would get fired. Karma's a bitch sometimes.

Herbstreit moved to Tennessee because there is no income tax.

(And his wife got tired of him screwing everyone in C-bus)

Desmond Howard can't put two sentences together in a competent manner.

Saying the guy is awful isn't crazy. It's honest.

First part - that's a good reason to move. Why pay more when you don't have to?

Second part - I've heard this also. I've seen him at his tricks when he was in Tuscaloosa for a game.

Not sure I agree with your comment about his "awful analysis". I think he does a pretty good job compared to most talking heads.

He can make plays in space.

  • So the local guy is calling for howard to be fired (or die) and it's ok, but it's wrong when someone does it to him?

Yes. Devidee logic at it's best.

The local radio guy has no power whatsoever to get Desmond Howard fired.

So which is it? The title says that Herbstreit got the guy fired. The body of the post says he's doing everything in his power to get the guy fired. Which is it?

    The guy is suspended.

All indications are he won't be coming back.

He didn't say it on the air it was a tweet during Gameday last Saturday. Herbstreit then brought it up on his weekly show in Columbus. I actually like Torg, he was just trying to be funny. Poor taste sure but I doubt if it was Mark May or someone on Fox that he was tweeting about, he would not have lost his job. It's a ESPN affiliate fwiw.

    Yes.

    Apologize for the ambiguity.

It's still very much an off the cuff comment.

Still in very poor taste and still probably deserves to lose his job. Maybe it was a joke, maybe he just lost sight of proper judgment for a second but he still deserves to not be on the air if he doesn't know better IMO.

you pay taxes in the state you earn them in. herby pays taxes in connecticut for espn, and ohio for his radio show.

Yep....NFL for example. Say you play for the Browns and you play at Indianaplois, you pay Indiana tax that week.
