Hey staff members.. Recruiting talk

  • How about some of your under the radar guys that you see with potential for a bump.

Also, if y'all could answer a few questions.. Seems like a while since we had a discussion with the staff on here.

Several guys that I've recommended for bumps in California include, Nico Falah, JoJo Mathis, Pierre Cormier, Demorea Stringfellow and Elijah Qualls.

One kid that I love out of Utah is Sean Barton.

Out of Louisiana, I think tevin Lawson has the best chance of moving up. I want to see Michael Patterson in a camp setting against some good comp and see what he does. Lawson has the size and upside you look for though, size 18 shoes.

I personally think Priest Willis is a potential five-star kid at CB but that isn't something we've discussed yet as a group.

I'm always game to answer some questions.

  • Barton, you're the man.

    I really like Lawson.

Diarse is a guy who will be affective too. He reminds me of Lafell.

i know cooper bateman recently got a solid bump into the mid 100s, but it appears to me he has the potential to go even higher. do you think he can jump into 5 star material with a top performance at the elite 11 and great senior year?

I've always really like Cooper Bateman on film a lot. I think that if he puts together a good camp showing he could definitely be in the conversation for 5-star status. With him playing up in Utah, he doesn't get quite as much exposure and it's a little bit tougher to read his competition than some of the other big name passers but yes, I think he is capabale of earning a 5th star.

On a side note, I can't wait until this fall when Skyline (Max Browne) plays Cottonwood (Bateman). Both teams have multiple other prospects. SHould be a fantastic matchup.

We recently bumpd Reggie Wilkerson to a 4-star and I'm betting you see his stock continue to climb. He's just a baller that makes plays and has size.

I also thought that Keanu Neal looked great in 7on7 recently. I love his athleticism and he's much bigger than he looks on film. He played side by side next to Marcel Harris and I thought he looked like the more athletic cover safety.

You gotta go with Laremy Tunsil as the to North FL kid.

Also, a couple of guys that I am not as high on personally as most are Ahmad Fulwood and Daniel McMillian. I think Fulwood is about as good looking physically as you could ever hope for in a WR. Really good player, I just think he's not that top 100 type talent as a playmaker. McMillian is similar, really athletic, just didn't make a ton of plays in the game i saw him last year (against Yulee).

I've kind of touched on a lot of Florida commits accidentally. BTW, I LOVE Quinton POwell after seeing him in person. He could be a top100 type talent IMO.

    Thanks.

No set date but it's definitely been discussed.

ONe thing that is holding us up is that there is no obvious No. 1 in this year's class. Lots of guys that we think are 5-star types but it's been tough to nail down the top guy. No Nkemdiche or Clowney that is a no-brainer for the top spot.

Here is my one hangup on Diarse: i love him as a player. I love him as a playmaker, a competitor, intangibles, etc. But he's got an Alshon Jeffrey type body structure only without Alshon Jeffrey's height.

I think that's just something I'm going to need to get past because he's probably too good of a player to penalize him for that too much.

Makes sense. Some more camps and varsity competition to make the situation more clear. Thanks B!

  • I hear u on Diarse for sure.

He is a hard working, blue collar type of player and I can see him being a solid possession type guy down the road, especially if he grows an inch or 2.

I really like Qualls. Have you seen him in camp? Im wondering how big he is. Looks like a kid that could grow into a 1 tech. Very quick first step and can re-direct.

Also, Cormier looks very good on tape. Have you seen him in person?

I have not seen him in person but you gotta think that at that size he'll slide inside. I love Richardson on film though and think he's a stud. Fletcher Cox could be a reasonable comparison, another guy that was a high school DE.

I have heard that Daniels did not look as explosive in person as he does on tape. Interested in hearing more analysis of him as a prospect. SC is looking for 1-2 WR's this class and Daniels, Mitchell, and Stringfellow seem like the most logical choices in state to get offers.

    Barton?

No, he's a beast. I think the main thing that has held his recruitment up a little bit is grades.

One thing about Daniels that struck me at the Army Combine when I saw him is that he is not as big as he looks on film - and I don't mean that in a bad way. On film he looks like a big strong, lumbering guy at times but in person he's got a frame that isn't maxed out and can still add strength.

I expected him to look like Demorea Stringfellow (who i love) and he doesn't.

Extremely high. Steve Wiltfong absolutely raved about him after seeing him in person this fall.

    Barton?

I want to see Daniels again before I make a final judgement on him. He didn't jump out to me quite as he seemed to to others when I saw him at the combine. HOpefully he'll be at the Oakland Nike Camp in June.

I love Stringfellow but you have to understand what you're getting. He makes Dareus Rogers look small. He doesn't create a lot of separation, he's a thick, physical dude but he has terrific hands and body control. Almost could even wind up at TE.

Mitchell seems to stand out everywhere he goes and I watched a full game of his in the fall and you can't miss him. He makes plays in pads.

A couple of other names are Kendal Keys (loved him at NIKe camp, big target), Jon Ross and Julius Wilson. Ross is a smaller dude but bigtime playmaker.

Lots of sorting out to do in California at that position.
