I really like Qualls. Have you seen him in camp? Im wondering how big he is. Looks like a kid that could grow into a 1 tech. Very quick first step and can re-direct.

Also, Cormier looks very good on tape. Have you seen him in person?

I have not seen Qualls in camp yet - hoping he'll be at the Oakland Nike. I agree though. Love him on film. Love any big kid that has that kind of athleticism and versatility. I enjoy talking to him too. Good kid that seems to love the game.

Cormier is my guy. Great film and I was worried that he'd be a midget when i saw him in person or maybe be too frail too slow etc. Not the case. He is a thick kid. Probably 5-10 legit, definitely not a 5-8/5-7 type guy and he was running legit times in track before pulling his hamstring.

I think Cormier is going to blow up this spring with offers.

I want to see Daniels again before I make a final judgement on him. He didn't jump out to me quite as he seemed to to others when I saw him at the combine. HOpefully he'll be at the Oakland Nike Camp in June.

I love Stringfellow but you have to understand what you're getting. He makes Dareus Rogers look small. He doesn't create a lot of separation, he's a thick, physical dude but he has terrific hands and body control. Almost could even wind up at TE.

Mitchell seems to stand out everywhere he goes and I watched a full game of his in the fall and you can't miss him. He makes plays in pads.

A couple of other names are Kendal Keys (loved him at NIKe camp, big target), Jon Ross and Julius Wilson. Ross is a smaller dude but bigtime playmaker.

Lots of sorting out to do in California at that position.

Thanks Barton. I think Stringfellow would be best utilized as an H-back. Not a true inline TE.

Posting from Mobtown. Is Tre' Williams a possible 5 star for 2014?

I gotta plead the 5th on Tre. I haven't been able to dig up much film on him, at least not enough to have a real opinion on him. Obviously everything I've heard has been great so he'll be highly ranked. Don't know about five-star.

I do think that Marlon Humphrey is a 5-star type kid (that's just me talking). Elite speed and good size but his CB instincts and breaking ability look elite to me as well.

I'm excited about the 2014 class and the state of ALbama is loaded.

Thanks. Really appreciate your availability. I know we don't always agree (Mathis before you saw him in camp), but your candid responses are appreciated.

    It's a Bama/lsu battle.

Some people are very high on him and others aren't so it's tough to get a read on his potential.

Where is Jabrill Peppers going to be ranked?

He was our sophomore Player of the Year. This cat is good enough to play college football right now. This one is easy to call. He's a big-time CB, a heck of a high school RB, and also an electric return man. Has a great build too. Great kid, great student. The total package.

How about Lewis Neal? Word is he's about to blow up here with offers soon.

In addition to the Ohio State, Clemson, UNC, Tennessee, South Carolina etc offers he already has?

Neal is an interesting prospect because he's a guy that pops out on video but where does he really fit position wise? Is he really an undersized DE and/or is he athletic and fast enough to be a OLB? Could be a fit as a MLB?

UNC is recruiting him as a Bandit (DE/LB) which fits their 4-2-5 but not sure were his best position is in a traditional 4-3 for other teams.

IMO he's a tough prospect to rank/rate because he's not all that impressive looking in person physically but he stands out on video and is potentially considered a 'take' by some solid programs. I think there's a danger he could end up being 'just a guy' at the next level or he could find a spot and really be a difference maker.

He honestly reminds me of a few defensive prospects VT has traditionally gotten that don't really have ideal measurables for a position but they put some weight on, get faster and all of a sudden they're someone other teams have to game-plan for.

Both could get bumps. Pagano in particular is the one whose stock has skyrocketed. Gerry had a chance to see him in person at the Dallas NFTC so he should have some good insight but I definitely think he's a potential 4star. Could be 3 4stars in Hawaii this year.

  • Any chance Johnny O'Neal receives a bump in rankings? He is ranked much higher everywhere else and really bounced back after a bad Sophomore year.

  • In Florida, Island Coast's Kurt Benkert needs a bump up. He led all Juniors last year with over 3000 yds passing and 34 Tds with just 7 int's. He was the #1 Junior in Florida. He played last year for Cape Coral Seahawks and Broke all Single Season Records and Single Game Records. Leading the Seahawk's to the 2nd round of the playoffs. Benkert had to continue to lead his team week in and week out in shootouts as their defense gave up an average of 40 points per game. Benkert is a 4.3 Student and is 6'3 1/2 and 205 Lbs. He is due to graduate early.
