Yet again, I fail to see the problem with informing a recruit well before he signs his scholarship papers that the plan will be to grayshirt him. As long he knows the plan before NSD, there isn't an issue.

Since CNS has been here, we've had multiple starters at multiple positions, including QB, TE, and OT that delayed their enrollment for various reasons.

And lol at the AJC for citing our scholarship numbers when our own beat writers and recruiting writers don't have a clue where we stand.

  • The kid states in the article, that they are gonna get me a job. I was under the impression that if they, meaning Alabama got him a job, since he is not on their roster, that that would constitute an illegal enticement of that recruit. Like in, an "illegal benefit". What category of recruitment does a practice like this constitute anyway, "Stock piling future recruit, with illegal enticements?" I am not by any means a legal expert and certainly not as savvy as Saban is at getting around the rules, but isn't this a violation? Did Saban make a promise and it comes back to bite him in the butt on this one? I am sure he did not think this kid would actually reveal that information. Now what will probably be said, in a half A** attempt at a correction, is I errr, meant to say, I wuz gonna get a job and Saban is gonna give me a letter saying he will sign me in 2013. Young man, if you, your parents and that stupid coach you have in high school have any brains at all, run , and run as fast as your rehabbing knee can take you, as far away from this mess as you can. If necessary, go to a JUCO, and get a head start on some of your studies, because otherwise, you are now wasting at least a year of your life.

  • I see a kid in Georgia that would rather sit out a semester to play for Alabama than have to play for a dumpster fire like UGA next year.

    Smart career choice, IMO.

I disagree. When the scholarship is offered is when the player should be informed that it is a grayshirt offer. Otherwise you have situations like this, where a kid is committed to a school for over a year only to have his scholarship, lets say amended to be a grayshirt, less than a month before signing day.

Putting myself into that kids shoes, or his parents shoes (rather than a fans shoes) and I without question see an issue with that scenario.

Still a lot better than Les Miles doing so after the kid is on campus though.

That was the strangest part of the article. I can't believe he'd rather stay at home than find somewhere to play. He doesn't understand that the same thing is going to happen next year. He's being passed by better recruits.

Except you are leaving out the part where we, UGA, already have Keith Marshall and Todd Gurley committed to us in this class and wouldn't take Taylor even if he wanted to come.

  • Grey shirting is something talked about when an offer is extended to the kid imo. He was Bama's 7th commit right? But now he is number 26 and one to many. Funny how that works.

Oh well, the kid doesn't have a problem with it so none of us should either.

I am not pissed It seems perfectly fine with me to string a kid along for over a year. Then keep him on the hook with empty promises and illegal enticements. Especially when we all know the kids heart is being ripped out by a process that gave him dreams of playing for a premeir program only to cast him aside when it became clear his value not what it once was. Everything is totally above boards there iyam. Rtr

The grayshirt is actually giving him a chance to play for the premier program in college football, and giving him the best chance to succeed in that program.

If the possibility was never discussed with him before this week, then i do think that is a failure on our staff's part, and Saban says as much in the article.

The reality is that if he wants to play at Bama, which he clearly does, then this is the best course of action for him to take.

I see a kid being point blank lied to and who will never play for Bama. As far as the greyshirt, 2 weeks ago is the first he heard of it.

Saban did this hoping the kid would look elsewhere and when he didn't, they threw together some bullshit piece of paper and this kid believed it. In essence, Saban pissed on his head, told him its raining, and he bought it. If Bama really cared about this kid and was "committed" to him, they would bring him in ASAP and get their doctors looking at him.

BTW, he doesn't have a UGA offer, he was never going to play here. Thanks for trying anyway. Good to see the AJC doing their job and dragging the OOS schools through the mud. clap

  • This kid is stupid if he actually believes he is going to Alabama next year. Slime ball of a coach too, you offered that kid a scholarship you don't cut him loose because someone better wants to commit. You wonder why Bama is so high up in the rankings because they are never limited on scholarships and just cut players to make room for better players.

Settle down bro. This isn't Saban's first rodeo and this GA kid isn't the first (nor the last) to take a grey shirt from Alabama instead of playing elsewhere. Get over it.

Do you honestly think that it is in the kids best interest to take a year off from school and work? If it was your son would you really condone this decision? Again, not a Bama thing. No hate. Just wondering how anyone can objectively look at this situation and think it's ok

If he is good enough, he will play. If he doesn't "make the cut", then you guys can have him. Deal with it.

I think the kid doesn't have a problem because he doesn't really realize what is going on here yet. When it dawns on him finally that he will never go to Bama, he is gonna be pissed.

BTW, so the "Kirby RAID!!!!" this year consists of one solid OT, one solid LB, a drastically overrated CB and a slot WR/scatback? Wow, Bama really does just have their way in GA...

You offered him a scholarship, if you didn't want him to commit don't offer him or don't let him commit. Don't wait until a couple weeks until NSD to let him know, "Hey we got some higher ranked guys coming in, do you want to take a year off and maybe sign with us next year?" I highly doubt he gets that signed paper either
