How can you be ranked above a team that just beat you?

You guys are so sensitive - resorting to insults an name calling instantly discredits you.

C'mon little kids act that way on the play ground

I do not understand why it is offensive to ask why Stanford is not ranked ahead of Oregon or Baylor is not ranked ahead of KState.

Well, because some voters obviously don't think they're better teams. I understand where you're coming from, but like I said before, one game does not a season make. Even after NC State beat FSU I didn't think they were the better team (hence it being an upset) and in no way would I have ranked NC State over FSU.

seriously..... do you really think like this everyday..... yikes. Alabama is still ahead of AM because alabama hasnt lost 2 games its that easy if we take your ...thought process then we have teams like nc state and baylor in the top 10 because they had one good night of football...... It kinda comes off like ur just scared of Bama or something.

What is up with this "scared of Bama" thing?!! Are they coming after me?

    Hey - ND was predicted 7-4, 6-6

    1. L. Bell was going to run for 200 against the Irish
    2. Heisman front runner Denard was going to put 600 yards on the Irish D
    3. The Canes high powered Offense and Florida speed was too much for slow Notre Dame.
    4. Stanford's running game would wear the Irish down.
    5. BYU is a trap game
    6. No way ND could beat Big Game Bob
    7. USC has too much 5 star talent to lose to ND with or without Barkley

Do you actually think this team or fanbase is afraid to play anyone anywhere?

The team and the fans have been in every possible situation - over seas game, ESPN gamedays, every away game at night on prime time on ABC, sold out stadiums everywhere they play, playing at soldier field, playing against: Option Teams, Spread Offense Teams, Power I Teams, running QB's, Pocket QB's, teams that effectively use the wildcat.......

Do you actually think ND is scared to play any team??

    C'mon man - it's a football game not a knife fight

It's not offensive...it's just utterly ludicrous. I don't think much of K-State, but they have one loss. Baylor has five. They're in the same conference. A nutless monkey could figure this out.

So you are saying K State is a better football team than Baylor?

Another personal insult - that's childish

Look - my point is not to flame any team - I respect all the blue bloods and the next gen dynasties - I think the AP poll an the Coaches poll are corrupt and extremely biased.

I will use Saban as an example (no flame, just relevant to the topic) - how can Nick, after losing to TAMU, rank his team higher in the coaches poll? Matter of fact how can other SEC coaches rank Alabama higher? They did and I feel the poll is completely biased and should be tossed.

I would expect the same from Brian Kelly

    Wow, you are this stupid.

  • Leppycole said...

I keep hearing analysts and talking heads bashing the computers and I think

TAMU beats Bama at Bama and they are still ranked below them

Stanford Beats Oregon at Oregon and they are still ranked below them

I realize there are other factors that punish the Stanford and TAMU by losing earlier, but it seems the team ranked higher does not pay as big of a penalty.

The AP and Coaches poll are ranking the teams this way....

Are there other non-playoff sports where you prove you beat an opponent yet you are ranked below them?? I assume Golf is one and maybe Boxing?

So if SC beats ND then SC should be ranked higher then ND? Stupid thread.

  • Florida should definitely be higher than A&M and LSU. First, they only have 1 loss. Second, they beat both teams.

Its silly to hear A&M fans crying about this.

If USC beats ND - they are a better team and in any tournament would send ND home.

My original theory is that the Human Polls are biased and corrupt and fans of teams that benefit from the bias would instantly spew venom at the simple thought that a much lower ranked team beating them would justify the higher ranked team dropping below them.

    Fandom blinds common logic.

Ask yourself this question and clear your mind of Fandom Bias:

Taking college football out of the equation - if two teams play each other regardless of their records and team A beats team B - is team A better? Also, if you were ranking the teams in a scenario where an opinionated pre-season poll did not falsely set a standard o measurement and you had to rank the top 25 today - how would you rank it?

It is clear that ESPN and regional AP homers vote is biased to the contracts they have with conferences and personal fandom - which is why the BCS is a flawed system and until the NCAA gets to an 8 or 16 team playoff - all the confusion and venom will continue.

Maybe I am to black and white and think in absolutes.

Why are we talking about a tournament? The regular season isn't one-and-done in any sport. Didn't the Patriots beat the Giants twice the year they went undefeated but lost in the Super Bowl to... the Giants?

  • corrupt would be putting a 2 loss team ahead of a 1 loss team. despite the head to head. in both situations on your original post you are talking about ranking a 2 loss team in front of a 1 loss team.

They only beat them once but same logic applies. In fact i'm pretty sure it was the last regular season when they played, and the Pats beat the piss out of them.

Good point, but should you fall further for losing to a two loss team...at home? Honest question, no rivalry mess. Personally I think the entire ranking system is bunk and would love a true play off system. JMHO

    were is Pitt ranked ?
