How come people want FSU and miami to carry the acc

  • Hot Sauce said...

All Florida State has done is bitch about the conference but the conference would get more money and attention if theynwere actually decent.

This argument really irks the crap out of me.....why do we have to carry the conference alone? If you look at any successful conference you will see that when some teams are going through their down period others step up to pick up the slack. Unfortunately in the ACC that does not happen. THAT is why the ACC just signed a really crappy deal.

Coach Fran's 2nd year was actually a pretty good team. Had an amazing DL with Jarret Johnson, Kendall Morehead, and Kenny King. Lost a heartbreaker at #1 OU, lost a close one when our starting QB got hurt to UGA that was #4 at the time as well.

Shula's was the bad one. Some good players with no offensive coaching what so ever. Shula can teach a QB up until game time and that's it. Great with QBs during the week though.

Forgot Shula lucked up and got 10 wins.... that is why I asked if it was Fran cause I thought they were a good team

Exactly. But LSU and Uf carried the SEC cred then. No one I'm the ACC picked up the slack for FSU and UM during the down years. Looking at the comparable teams I guess I can see why. Sigh

Simple geography. Most of the SEC are tied to one another. If Bama, LSU, and Florida are on top, Tennessee, UGA, and Auburn are down (swap the teams around if you like). The thing is that FSU, in particular, and Miami are tied to the SEC teams in that regard as well instead of the ACC, with an exception maybe being Clemson.

The truth is, Miami should have stayed Independent and been able to keep this South Florida/National mystique and FSU belongs in the SEC and should have came when they could have (completely understand why they didn't as well). Unfortunately, Florida, South Carolina, UGA, and Kentucky have teamed up to block any of those state's schools from getting in.

The SEC should have gone to 16 with aTm, FSU, VaTech, and WVU and put FSU in the West, IMO, but they crapped around and let 3 or 4 teams dictate to everyone. Va Tech brings the DC market, WVU would bring the Pittsburgh market, and aTm would bring the Texas markets. FSU doesn't bring an extra market, but just fits, as the other 3 do/would with the culture of the SEC. I don't hate the Mizzou addition, but it was only for the market and no other reason.

    Good points and I agree.
You're right on target about the balance in the SEC. When we joined the ACC there were several solid programs but they didn't care(?) to or couldn't keep up. When we and then UM cycled down there was no team to step up as a national power. Totally different ball game than in'92.

  • This is my last post on this subject. People were saying the conference was weak when FSU was dominating it, but now that we have been down everyone wants to blame a FSU for the conference getting screwed when we bring the most money to the conference.
