How do you get your steak cooked?

Who cares? Does your restaurant charge them any less to burn and ruin their meat? I have more of a problem with people who don't taste their food before they dump a half shaker of salt on it.

I had an officer tell me one time that people who salt their food before they taste it have no leadership abilities.

Also, it depends on the steak. Heat/fire actually helps with the flavor of beef. Ever eat raw beef? The flavor is pretty mild. However when cooked the flavor in the fat integrates into the steak, amongst other things. My personal opinion. Filet - Rare to Medium Rare Strip - Medium Rare Ribeye - Medium Rare to Medium

Have fun chewing all the fat off of your rare bone-in ribeye. I'm sure that will be real tasty.

I dont do the Bone-in Ribeye. Our Ribeyes are awesome and my favorite to get

I have noticed a lot of people who get it well use steak sauce and people who go medium or less don't that should say a lot about what cooking it to well does to the flavor.

I hear you man, but eating bloody raw meat is a mental hang up for me.... I'm more of a bowl of cereal person than a steak person anyway however lame that sounds. I like a steak now and then but don't care for the blood.

I'm asking because I work at a steakhouse and cant seem to understand why people will ruin a good filet or ribeye by getting it well done.

So part 2 of this question is if you get your steak cooked well or medium well, why?

I always order medium rare and warn people I'm eating with anything higher than medium is likely getting spit on. Just don't do it or go get a steak at Applebee's.

So I guess earning your red wings is out of the question huh?

Officers only know what their NCOs want them to. They are like little kids who need to have a babysitter.

Haha. The cooks never spit on any food but when they read the tickets, they just roll their eyes when they see well done

Anyone that uses steak sauce on a steak that cost more than $15 should be shot. I'm just sayin'

  • Steak to Americans is just about as sacred as the cow in general is to Indians... maybe more?

Steak sauce in that sense seems like peasant shit. Montreal seasoning is great though

No, I realize the restaurant doesnt care but when taking peoples orders it just baffles me sometimes why someone will order a 17.99 6 oz filet and then come close to burning it.

Now I just serve the food but on a personal note, I wonder why.

This reminds me of one of my favorite parts of backpacking in Argentina. You could go to the best steak houses in Buenos Aires and pay the same price for 400 g (over 13 oz) of filet. I've never eaten so much steak in about 6 weeks in my entire life.

Also, the only country I've ever had kobe beef in.

one blog entry about it here: http://daywalkeradventures.blogspot.com/2010/12/meal-unlike-any-other.html

Oh yeah...and I get my steak just past medium-rare. I like it pink all the way through and a small amount of red.

  • We serve the hell out of some steaks and I have no problem serving it any temp that they ask for. But if we are running some kind of Cowboy Ribeye with the bone in we say Medium or below.
    A. It would take 1 hour to get all the blood out of that steak
    B. There would still be red by the bone.

As for filets, hell a well done filet is actually still pretty tender if you cook it right. Grill it to get the sear and then finish it in the broiler. Not my fave but I could eat it with some steak sauce.
