How is any of this the Auburn Football program's fault?

  • Lets keep this civil, but seriously, how is any of this an indication of the state of the Auburn Football Program as I have heard and seen in several places? Including the irresponsible Pete Thamel, who continues to flabbergast me with his reckless journalism. How can you honestly blame this on Chizik?

They cant. This could have happened anywhere. We always have a target on our back for bad media from the media for some reason. People love to talk bad about AU.

It's not. It's an Auburn problem as in the city. Not saying because it's a bad place or anything. Just that this is an off campus matter. The guy was from Montgomery anyways.

Yes, all coaches would love their players to go to bed at 10pm and never have fun, but that's not reasonable. Not saying it would have helped, but the NCAA outlawing athletic dorms was a horrible idea.

It is not. I agree that Thamel seems to have an agenda when it comes to AU.

I don't think it's an AU problem, but I do have a question.

How far off campus are these apartments?

They're called 'off campus' but the name is like 'University Heights' or something isn't it?

You are absolutely right about the NCAA getting rid of athletic dorms BetterOff. I never understood that logic.

not sure its still slipping my mind at the moment, but there were 50 to 60 people there. Its filled with students of all ethnic backgrounds. It's not the hood or anything.

That auburn reddit someone linked seemed to infer that it wasn't a good complex.

Probably about 5 miles to 10. If you have ever drove to Auburn and go the I 85 route then you probably got off at exit 51 college street exit. If you have this complex is pretty much accross the street from Walmart right off 85

Auburn is still one of the safest cities in the state. I just don't get how some dude with a violent history from 60 miles west of Auburn getting mad because somebody is dancing with his girl is a "reflection on the thuggish nature of the AU program."

I understood the logic back then, but it really biting them in the butt these days.

Some schools would have 51 inch 3D TVs, PS3s, and the works just standard in every room.

I've only been there once, but longleaf, based on where Kite is saying it is, isn't the best area... However my issue is how can any sane mind put this on AU

It's not great but it's by no means a terrible place. Any place in Auburn I would walk around pretty comfortable at night without my gun. Opelika is a bitof a different story though. Auburn really doesn't have but one or two small complexes that are really rough. I would say that that complex wasn't where older wiser students live though. I always lived as close to campus as possible.

There is nothing wrong with that though IMO. Give the kids something to do. The better stuff you have in the dorm to occupy time for these kids, the least time they have to wonder in the street. These kids should have dorms with extra perks due to making the university so much money. They should eat better food, have better beds, better showers, fast food places down stairs, because being a student athlete is a full time job. If they cant be paid with money, then my god dont take away their perks.

Our PD tends to over react some times. I wouldn't go as far as a shootout happened although I don't know. I just know APD. They tend to over react to things.

I'm not saying it is the hood but I did read today that back in April a guy opened fire on police with an assault rifle at the same apartment complex. Nobody was hurt but the police found guns and drugs in the apartment and the guy was arrested on 4 counts of attempted murder among other things. It seems it isn't the best place to live.

That said, I don't think the AU football program can be blamed for this incident. That's kind of a ridiculous accusation, IYAM.

The complex isn't upscale but it's not the cheapest place either. My guess is right around 300 a month per person maybe a little under. I always tried to live a lot closer to campus though. I never understood why someone would want to live so far away from campus that they relied on the bus or their car to get to class/bars. I usually looked for convenience to walk to/from the campus/bars.
