How long does ND continue to get preferential treatment?

  • D-Mo said...

The reason I think most people don't like ND now is because ND still has a say in what happens, and people don't like that.

100% agree. I think ND should have the equal "say" as every other school in the FBS playoff.

I really don't understand the hate for ND

You don't understand the hate?Let me help you then. You no longer win anything yet because of your past you are given preferential treatment. This is why people hate you.You sit at the table without merit.

Of the few ND fans I know none of them went to school there.

God, I hope all the fans I've seen wearing Alabama shirts aren't actual alums...poor argument, you're better than that.

I agree that they suck at football right now but they are getting that preferential treatment because of their history, prestige, and mainly the money they pull in as an independent.

Conferences drool over getting ND because of the amount of money and attention they can bring them

    You get it.

I can pretty much guaranty you that anybody you have seen in an Alabama shirt is not an alum. ND has a large sidewalk fan base but I don't think it's anywhere near where it used to be 10, 20, 30 years ago.

I could easily contend that people in the South and West don't give a shit about ND given their on field irrelevance.

They get a day because they negotiated well back when the BCS was forming and they were somewhat relevant.

There is quite a large Notre Dame fanbase in both the South and West.

They are the Cowboys and the Yankees of CFB.

They are worth a shit ton more than most FBS schools in BCS conferences as an independent.

Hate them all you I want. I do. But the fact remains that their brand is worth the most.

USC/Notre Dame has a very unique rivalry...our histories are so closely intertwined that you can't read about one, and not learn about the other. That said, our universities hold a joint scholarship fundraiser that benefit both universities..so we sit together, talk about the rivalry and listen to former greats talk about the big game. Friendships with the "enemy" have been forged over time. You get to know the power players of our rivals...and let me tell you, Notre Dame has a ton of loyal, wealthy and zealous alums and fans...let me know again when they can't fill their stadium, or when they stop bringing in more fans.

An entire conference (the most powerful at the time) tried to ban ND from CFB..they did not succeed...even now, no one is powerful enough to stop them from being a major player -regardless of the current status of their FB program.

Again, I don't want to ban them or anything. I just don't think they should get preferential treatment. I don't think any school should.

So, the fact that that little school in South Bend consistently is #1 or #2 as Forbes "College Football's Most Valuable Teams" does not support that argument?

    2. University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish - Chris Smith - Forbes

Current Value: $112 million Two-Year Change in Value: 4% Football Profit: $47 million Conference: Independent Head Coach: Brian Kelly Notre Dame was the only school able to generate more than $10 million in additional spending per home game last season.

Finally some evidence. So, as a USC fan, would you be OK if Texas got it's own vote along with ND but nobody else would?

I posted this on my own board, but Texas will never have the power Notre Dame has...they think so, but they are a very closed university...Texas-centric. If you look at their student population, it is comprised almost entirely of Texas natives..so is their football program. They're more Texans than they are Americans. They were smart not wishing to join the PAC, and so are we...our power players are capable of sharing for the good of the conference.

Notre Dame, on the other hand has more than a century reaching across the country to admit students, and their FB program has always drawn from all regions and states. Notre Dame is a national university in very sense of the word.

    Not a valid argument darling.

I'll respond with factual info tonight. I'm swamped with papers and have to conduct several interviews today. But yes I can show you.

Don't get me wrong Texas and is up there and rising as is Alabama if they continue to win and recruit nationally.

    But Notre Dame is it

It's completely a valid argument. Texas is making more money and winning more games than ND and it's not even close. Texas has plenty of power.

It doesn't matter where the people are in the country who watch the games, it matters how many do.

  • Notre Dame should be involved in the discussion because of their position in the BCS. There is no denying that. Of course, their opinion matters, but it really doesn't matter anymore than the 40 or so other BCS programs that don't have a shot of being ranked high enough to gain entrance in a playoff.

Remember, there were people in the 1950's saying that eventually Army and Navy would be back to prominence as well. I would love for tradition's sake to see Notre Dame have a top 10 program again sometime, but it is looking more and more less likely with every year. Their issue is so far beyond making better coaching hires to even scratch the surface at the moment.

Step back and look at the full picture.....Texas has power because of the state of Texas..and the state OWNS UT. Notre Dame is small, and powerful enough to challenge a Goliath.

Notre Dame draws a large national TV viewing audience...half of the all time most watched CFB games in the history of TV involve Notre Dame (and USC)

You mean like the Southern Baptist Church that apologized 10 years ago for aiding and abetting the KKK? Is that not evil?

  • But for my post on this. I mean whether they have the biggest brand or not should not really matter, even if they want it to. Notre Dame isn't coming back. This isn't the old days where the big northern teams could recruit against Alabama and no one else in the south, the recruiting base is here and kids don't ahve to leave home any more, and that "National Brand" doesn't mean crap to kids in the south(Don't try and bring up one example showing otherwise, I live here I know). What does all of this mean you might ask, that as much as people want them to come back, it won't happen. Notre Dame lives off that national brand financially and recruiting wise, and one of those two wheels has fallen off.

I wasn't talking about that, while that may be true. But just to cut to the chase the Catholic Church is not Christian based religion(See their emphasis on Mary as a holy entity for proof).

My God...don't choke on your ignorance. How do you think whatever church you come from, got the manuscripts that were faithfully copied and guarded by priests and monks through the ages (also saved from the vandals in the sack of Rome), that have been translated by all Christians as the Bible? Because of the Church, God's word was saved for all to interpret.

You have no idea what you're talking about...as for Mary, we view her in the same light Our Lord did...before His death, He thought of her at the end, and entrusted her care to the apostle he loved the most.
