How many here deal with sciatic nerve pain?

  • Even after two years and two surgeries my leg still hurts 24/7. Anyone else experiencing constant nerve pain?

I was, but fortunately a successful L5-S1 discectomy allevated it.

What was your surgery? Did you have fusion?

Lastly...and I'm being serious..have you tried an inversion table/gravity boots?

My dad and my brother are pain mgmt docs. I use to suffer from insane Pain but had a surgery and since then I've been great. I still have the occasional pain but nothing like it was. Be careful with the meds you take. They can make it worse. What do they have you on?

I take two lyrica and three hydrocodone daily. Those two help a lot. The doctors keep telling me that it can take up to a year for the nerves to fully heal in my leg, I just find it odd that after two outpatient surgeries I feel very little difference. I admit I need to ice my back more as well walk more to help align the spine but I do it as much as I can.

I had the L3-L4 then the L4-L5 done a few months later. My specialist says I'm definitely not a candidate for fusion surgery so I'm happy about that of course. I'm actually to the point I think the nerves in my leg itself may be damaged and need direct attention.

I think a inversion table is a good idea. You're the 5th person who's asked me that so it must be a sign I need to seriously look into it.

I had an L5-s1 disc rupture. Sucked big time. Crazy pain. Being in sales and sitting in the car all day didn't help. The Neurosurgeon prescribed vioxx before it was taken of the market and the pain was gone within a week. I guess I got lucky. I still have issues from time to time but not like before. I wouldn't wish that pain on anyone. Good luck.

I'm glad you're getting over it. I'm amazed at how many people are in pain like myself and get fixed yet my case was described as "textbook and a simple fix" yet 24 months later I'm still asking the same question, WTF is wrong with me lol!

You mentioned that these were outpatient procedures...by chance were they percutaneous discectomies?

Yep I had it done at the recommendation of my specialist.

Well...the efficacy of that procedure has come under fire somewhat...it's become something of a controversial procedure, at least here in South Florida

it may be that you should get further medical consultation, and I would recommend with a good neuro-surgeon

Damn that's not good news at all. I'm going to do just that then. Hopefully the procedure hasn't done more harm than good. If so I'm going to be pretty bummed out. Thank you for the advice!

  • Had it from a car wreck along with several hip joint issues and fortunately it went away after a few months but was worried it would last. Sucked the big one and it flared bad every time I'd be sitting for a while then would stand up.

  • Ruptured disc for 10 yrs from basketball incident, haven't played since but can still play tennis.

Ironically it cured my horrible snoring problem because I now must sleep on my back because of my back.

Haven't had to have surgery yet for the back, but daily minor pain

WTF? Seriously? I had the same thing. Happened when I was 22... And 15 years later it's effing tennis that usually brings back the pain. I cant go more than 3 sets on hard court or I'm toast

I just can't see myself at age 34, or you at age 24, being on meds forever because of this crap. Now I know which foundation I'll be making donations too. No one should have to live with pain 24/7.

Red, my dad who is now 73, had shingles on his face and neck. Along with it, came facial myalgia. Horribly painful. This all occurred 2 months ago. Believe it or not - a golf buddy of his recommended he try acupuncture. He did it RELUCTANTLY. Dad's a conservative retired banker with a no non--sense perspective towards ANY new-age methodologies. He had nothing to loose & with that, he tried it. It worked. That's all I can say; It just works. Hope it helps bro.

I'm open to anything at this point. The one thing I do find encouraging is there are multiple options left out there so any success stories are worth hearing. Thank you greatly for the feedback.

  • What kind of bed do you have?

Spent some decent money on a Sleep Number, friend recommendation helicopter guy with messed up back, and it truly changed the way I slept for the better. Also seemed to relieve my back issues with bulging discs.

There are plenty of different mattresses to choose from that one worked for me. Ill never buy a different kind. I def notice the difference when traveling for work...wake up sore from hotel beds and not nearly as restful sleep.
