Hurd getting major attention

  • If Hurd goes to OSU, I would guess he'll end up at linebacker. I don't think RB is his best position anyway, and that's a scary thought.

Gerry who do you think is in the drivers seat?

I'm not sure there is a "drivers seat" right now.

I see it as Ohio State and Florida with Tennessee in a position to be right there. Not discounting Vanderbilt - as his interest because of James Franklin is sincere IMO.

Because playing running back/offense is so important to him, I think developing trust with staffs is very key for him.

  • Wonder what happened with this kid and Bama. Seems like we led big one day and the next... bottom of his list.

  • For Tennessee, and I speak as a fan, I think their hopes for landing Hurd rest on showing this year that he could be successful in this new "spread" system that Jones wants to use...

    AND...

that UT will be able to replace the unbelievable talent they will lose from the offensive line next year. They will have one of the top five Olines in the nation this year, but a TB wants to know if he will have a good line to let him shine.

If these two things are accomplished, UT will be in the thick of the hunt and maybe even the leader come next winter. Otherwise the home state team could be on the outside looking in.

Wow, what an impressive athlete and he has another year to put on some muscle! FREAK!!!!

I think Bama told him they liked him better at safety.

Makes sense....Dang, would love to have the kid because he is a heckuva talent. but i doubt he would be a RB for us if that's truly where he wants to play. its gonna be crowded with Yeldon, Henry, Tenpenny, Tyren, Scarbrough, and Rock Thomas

  • Just call the Umiser "stretch armstrong"..
He can amazingly stretch from Oregon to Tenn.., spinning tales on the trail, while suffering from the side effects of that pesky brain tumor, AND - @ bending the ear of the whole NCAA !
    Wow! He's aMazing!

Another poster nailed it. Alabama worked him at safety at summer camp some.

    Hurd wants to play offense.

Yea Gerry, sometimes I have to question myself when I know why a kid who's 16/17 has cooled on a school I don't even root for. At least this is your job and you get paid lol. Anyways Gerry thanks for the article I really appreciate the work, stats / quotes etc you put into it. You need to stop by Bucknuts more.

    I will.

Steve Wiltfong and I will be at the Core 6 Combine in Chicago Monday, so there will be quite a few Ohio State current and future targets on hand.

  • It was Coach Hinton that was by Beech last Friday BTW.

Coach Meyer was not with him, as expected by the Beech coaching staff.

  • Without doubt...in the last 4-5 years if there is a high 4*-5* player out of Tennessee, no matter the particular needs, you will see the OSU's and USCw creeping...then come Fla and Texas, then all the others such as Oregon and Stanford and TA&M.
However, with the new leadership in both SEC institutions in the state of Tennessee it will be increasingly more difficult for these other schools to pick off these kids, seemingly undetected...
What most don't realize at this point both the UT and Vandy have started to wised up and(the UT in the last 2 1/2 mo..Vandy last and this year) have already been putting in work with these young juniors and underclassmen before OSU or any other schools have. It is actually hard for me to fathom that the previous coaching staffs total ineptness at embracing local players and high school coaches while gallivanting around the country ignoring the talent in their back yard.
Granted, Tennessee ranks around 10-15 per state in number of D1 recruits. (may be a bit off so forgive me) But...Point Blank, the Tennessee Vols would be in a different place if we had picked up most of the strong recruits in TENNESSEE in the last few years... sparingly as they come. I think next year and beyond Tennessee will begin to grow into a larger hub as far as quality recruits and I predict that the state of Tennessee will start to rise, as we have in the number of quality basketball players hailing from Tennessee, in the number of top flight sheer football and baseball athletes and highly rated prospects.
My reasoning is that all major Tennessee cities are growing bc of the quality and beauty of life in the state and cities such as Chattanooga, Knoxville, Memphis and Nashville. JMO
