Well it wouldn't be unprecedented for a team that didn't even win their division to go play in the NC. Nebraska didn't even play in the Big 12 title game in '01 but still played Miami in the NC.

Oklahoma lost the Big 12 title game and still played in the NC in '03.

Still I don't think the voters will want to put two teams from the same conference in the title game.

you're right it wouldn't be unprecedented...that last sentence is another reason not mentioned

your right I just researched it. it was #1 vs. #2 in the Sugar and #3 vs. #4 in the Rose. The ranking that year were.

    1) OU 2) LSU 3) USC 4) Michigan

after bowl games. BCS had LSU #1 and AP had USC #1. This is why I thought I remembered a shared title. Sorry my mistake.

I still stand by my opinion that even if Bama is #2 they don't get to play because they wouldn't have even played in their conference championship game. It won't matter though if they are ranked #2 and left out. that fan base will still count it as a win.

    You're trolling... I'm biting.

Your last comment shows how biased you are in the conversation. And this comment - " I still stand by my opinion that even if Bama is #2 they don't get to play because they wouldn't have even played in their conference championship game." - shows how ignorant you are to the conversation.

The object of the BCS National Championship game is to post the BCS ranked #1 team vs. the BCS ranked #2 team. You know that, right? It would be 100% unprecendented for that not to happen, yet not at all unprecedented for a non-conference champion to make it to the game. Why on earth would the BCS buck their own system and choose a #3 team? It's not like it's a panel that chooses... the ranking spits out the top 2 teams to play in the BCSNCG and then the other 4 bowls go through a series of bidding for the final 8 BCS teams based on conference tie-ins and at-large bids.

    What if OU beats #2 OSU and the BCS rankings at the end of the year are: 1) LSU 13-0 2) Bama 11-1 3) OU 11-1 4) Oregon 12-1 5) OSU 11-1 6) VT 12-1 7) Stanford 11-1 8) Houston 13-0 9) Arkansas 10-2 10) Michigan State 12-1

Who goes to the Natty? I think it would be LSU vs. OU Rose? I think it would be Oregon vs. Michigan State Sugar? Bama vs. Stanford Orange? VT vs. Houston Fiesta? OSU vs. Big East?

And what happens if Arky beats LSU? Does LSU stay ranked in front of Bama? Does Arky jump Bama and LSU? Does LSU fall behind Bama? - I think it will depend on the loss, If it is close or OT I think LSU still is the highest rank. If it is a blow out, I think Arky jumps both.

    Thoughts

The BCS National Championship Game would be #1 LSU v. #2 Alabama.

I have pondered over your second question as well and have come-up with a couple possibilities:

I think the top 5 would be as follows:
    1. Alabama
    2. Oklahoma (remember the computers love Oklahoma State)
    3. LSU
    4. Oklahoma State
    5. Arkansas

However, I would not be shocked if it looked like this:
    1. Oklahoma
    2. LSU (Remember, Alabama only dropped one spot after losing to LSU)
    3. Alabama
    4. Arkansas
    5. Oklahoma State

  • Will be disappointed if a 1 loss Oregon gets in over a 1 loss Bama.

Simply put, if there is a rematch, why would you put a team in who got destroyed in the first game, needing a garbage TD late to keep it from being a 20 point loss on a neutral field.

And if you want to try to say that Texas isn't a neutral field, what do you think the Superdome is going to be.
