I believe the ridiculous taxes on tobacco are

Other countries tax rates are compiled much different than ours. Our corporate tax can be up to 39% while almost all the other countries cap at 35%

Ordinary citizens here pay roughly 0-39% federal and 0-12% state.

The UK is the highest individual rate at 50% but that takes into account the additional 12% they get hit with for that "free" health care system.

That's a very rough gauge of taxation here because varies even more state to state. Some states have flat taxes for various things, income taxes or not, sales taxes or not, low property taxes, marginal taxes, taxable gross income, deductions and expenses for other taxes, rebates based on budget surpluses or not etc.

What part of the constitution do these tobacco taxes violate?

The imaginary part that also says that Mexicans aren't allowed to come to the US, all Muslims are terrorists, and George W. Bush was the greatest president that ever lived.

Canada's debt is what? 600 Billion? That's pretty decent. Luckily you guys live at the doorstep of the worlds greatest superpower and reep the comfort and security it provides. Otherwise you'd have to spend more military money. We should be taxing you biotches for that.

While what you say may be true to an extent, the military in Canada and US serve very different purposes.

We don't try and police other countries when we disagree with their views. So yes US does protect us to an extent, but even if they didn't we still would spend nowhere near the money on the military because we don't invade/join in on conflict we have nothing to do with.

Well no one really pays a top rate of 35% anyways, so the max is really completely individual and personal, not theoretical.

What about the $96 billion that the US has in healthcare costs from smoking related problems? Or the $97 billion lost in productivity from smoking related problems? Should smokers be allowed to be a financial burden in our society because of a choice they no is going to lead to problems down the road?

Smoking, seatbelts, helmets all fall under same category. If you wanna be an idiot and smoke or drive without seatbelts then I see no reason to legislate it. I'd also refuse insurance companies from having to pay medical treatment for lung cancer patients who have smoked more than 7+ years of their life. While I'm at it, I'd let insurance companies off the hook for diabetic treatment for those that are obese without obvious issues causing it other than being a lazy, fat piece of sh*t.

For 1 thing you ignorant Pos you don't have to be overweight to get diabetes! For example look at Bret Michaels he's not overweight and he's had to deal with that desease. I have niece that's been diabetic since she was 2 years old and never once has she been overweight. I'm pretty much overweight all my life and I have NEVER cost my insurance or any taxpayer for anything concerning my weight! The only thing I've cost my insurance is for a leg infection and a D.O.T. mandated sleep anea test and supplys related cause to keep my cdl! I pay about $300 dollars a month in insurance and I probably never recoup that money I have spent or will spend. So why don't you fat comment and stick it in your ass!!!"!

No, they should not have to be picked up by insurance companies.

We are relatively low for developed nations.

Where we are way too high is the corporate tax rate. We need to lower that significantly and shift that revenue burden to income because in reality the expenditures are heavily oriented to the people and not the businesses. The tax rate should be lowered and flattened to whatever expenditures corporations take advantage of (court systems for property rights/contracts/IP/patents/suits etc.; infrastructure etc.).

No sh*t you moron. Which is why I said I would refuse treatment on diabetic patients that have diabetes because they're a fat, lazy Pos and not because of other reasons related to an ordinary healthy lifestyle. Learn to read and comprehend Ed.

Living in a free market works if there are no negative externalities associated with the choices consumers make. The problem is that people work in their self interest that hurt the rest of society and force the government to help correct the situation. Smoking, drinking and driving, not wearing seat belts, and obesity are all issues in which the consumer has neglected information provided to them and still has acted in their own self interest. I wish that people could live in moderation, without the need for government intervention, but it just won't happen. Government is not the problem, it's the people.
