I agree with les. They definitely needed a new coach but why an offensive guy going into a defensive league?
I would have liked to see them make a run at Patterson

If you think Sumlin is the right guy to lead you into the SEC than more power to you.
I would be pissed at that hire if it were my team, no doubt about that.
What has he done before Case Keenum?

Probably not, but he still fixed their offense. I didn't like the hire, I was really pissed. However, since he has been here he has done nearly everything very well. I feel like they should have struck while the iron was hot and got Kirby Smart. Even if he was a crap HC, the excitement would have been there to get the recruits.
Take the top Texas defenders this season and build from there.
Unless they win, the appeal of getting to play for them in the SEC isn't going to get any better than it was this past signing day.
Winning gets your the good recruits, and the good recruits will get you the wins. It's a cycle that the SEC has thrived on.

I think Sumlin will be a fine coach. Whether he will be successful in the SEC West remains to be seen but I think it's a good hire. I'm sure he knows enough about football to realize that throwing the ball 60 times a game won't work in the SEC. It worked fine for him at Houston so why stop doing it in that conference? I'm sure he'll change it up a bit.

No and it's not like Texas A&M has been recruiting badly anyway. I'm wanting us to keep on to Kirby as long as possible but I know he'll be a HC soon. I'm just hoping it's not a team in the SEC West.
