I still like this 16 team format

How many regular season games do we get?

I'd say go back to 11 and do away with CCG's. That would leave 2 teams playing 15 games and those 2 teams usually already play 14.

I just like the idea of every team having a shot.

Maybe. But it keeps the playoff balanced.

Why should more than 2 teams from a conference deserve a shot?

    BetterOff

  • I think 8 is plenty. At most 12 (give top 4 seeds initial byes).

If there was no limit, this is what you could have based on the current standings. I just don't see this generating anymore interest that Alabama/LSU in the BCSCG. If we are going to allow this to happen, then just stay with what we have, IMO. I like a little diversity and the bigger the format, the more that it allows for.

I agree, if we are not giving every conference champion a shot. I just like the idea of Utah St (or a team like that) starting the season with a prayer.

B/c more than 2 teams from a conference could be one of the best 16. If you want to give everyone a shot, and get "more interest", then the rule is fine. If you want the best 16 to play, then the rule is counter-intuitive. Do you really believe that between LSU, UF, USCe, and TAMU that none of them are top #16?

  • Autobids should only go to conferences with at least 12 teams and a CCG. All other teams must earn their way in via at-large bids. Leagues with 8-10 teams and no CCG should not get the same treatment as leagues with 12-16 teams and a CCG.

I think there is a good chance that 3 of them are. South Carolina? No.

I see what you are getting at, but leagues that have 10 teams and play everyone don't need a conference championship game if everyone is already playing everyone.

We are talking autobids. And conferences are getting bigger. Why should a conference with eight teams get one autobid just like a conference with 14 teams? If you want, let conferences with less than 12 teams play each other for an autobid. So the first week of December, while the B10, ACC, SEC and P12 are playing CCGs, let the WAC champion play the MWC champion for an autobid. And the Sun Belt champion can play the B12 champion for an autobid. There should be some minimum requirement to receiving an autobid more than simply being the best team in an 8-team conference. You only have to be better than seven other teams. That is the equivalent of winning a division in a larger conference.

Edit: Also, if you are going with a 16-team bracket, I would cap it at 3 teams from any one conference. If you are the fourth best team in your league, I can guarantee you are not the best team in the country.

    Play

    Touchdown, Alabama!

Ok, so you are not in favor of the best teams playing in the playoffs. Got it. Sounds reasonable.

I am being a realist. Well, besides the realistic chance of a 16 team playoff anyway. What I want doesn't matter.

To get everyone to come to an agreement, you have to make sure that everyone or at least all the power conferences have a piece of the pie and have a chance to equally have a piece of the pie.

In a 4-team playoff, I am not for a restricting the number of teams in a conference to 1, but I think 2 is reasonable and something that everyone can come to an agreement on.

It's either not going to happen or something like this is still 15-20 years from having a chance to it's really just for something to talk about.

16 is the only way it's ever a true ncaa championship. every conference has to be represented for the ncaa to sanction a champion.

This has nothing to do with the NCAA. And the farther away from it we keep them, the more credibility it will have.

  • If we are going to 16, then BCS leagues need to break away.

MAC, WAC, MWC, Sunbelt, etc. back to their own division. No way they deserve an automatic bid. I also don't think BCS teams should be allowed to play them.

Think if SEC, ACC, B1G, Big XII, PAC, and Big East only play each other OOC. There would be much less controversy and the playoffs would probably be fine a 8 (12 max).

If that happened, I would be good with that as well.

I just think we have a certain number of teams in FBS and they all deserve a chance just like they do in basketball. With the current format, a non-AQ school has to be undefeated or just have one loss for 2 or 3 years, then go undefeated again just to get into the discussion.

if the bcs leagues broke away, you wouldn't have to have a 16 team playoff.

also, wac is no longer after this year, so you won't have to worry about them anymore. only 10 fbs conferences in 2013.
