I think the rivalry between OSU/UM the school

  • Is bigger between the schools but the UM/MSU fans definitely hate each other more.

That's because Michigan's program is so pathetic right now that Sparty is actually competitive.

You are absolutely right. We didn't really care about MSU fans before because we always beat them, but now they stick their chest out like they are something special.

I think the same thing has happened recently with OSU. The game has not been competitive since 2006. So the fans haven't really been going at it recently.

True. Since we started winning the hate level has risen dramatically. They can't handle it and it's great.

  • Michigan is MSU's primary rivalry. OSU is Michigan's primary rivalry. That is a simple truth. While UM-OSU has an equal amount of enthusiasm for The Game, the enthusiasm for UM-MSU is always higher for Sparty.

Fact in the 90's we beat Michigan more than Ohio State. From 90-99 we beat them 4 times. We beat them with Mo and Lloyd. We beat teams that featured Desmond Howard, Charles Woodson, Tom Brady, Amani Toomer, Tyrone Wheatley and so on.

If you want to go back further we've beaten Michigan with Bo as well with Jim Harbaugh as QB right in their home stadium.

Question for you how Pathetic was Michigan in those games that we beat them?

When was the last time you beat them 4 years in a row?

How about 7 times in a row?

62 for four in a row, and in the 50's for another set of 4. The way things are going I feel like 7 in a row is reachable. If we reach 7 our players will do it with a lot less tattoos and without Dantonio ending up as a tragic hero. Keep detracting Devidee.

  • MSU is our third biggest rival...something that sits bad in their craw. We "OSU'd" them and went 6-0 before their more recent 4-0 run. Didn't hear from them then. RCMB was an afterschool group with 10 members that looked forward to Cedarfest more often than football. Their big rip is that people who didn't go to Michigan are also fans....not sure why that is a bad thing, but apparently it is. Every student that went to MSU applied to Michigan and then either was not accepted or chose MSU. That's a fact. Everyone who attended Michigan didn't necessarily apply to MSU. Do they have hot women? Absolutely. IS their team currently better than ours? Yes. However, the idea that they have closed the gap in terms of relevance is silly.

This. Playing Michigan is MSU's MNC game. This is all their fans care about. I worked with an MSU grad who stated he would rather go 1-11 and beat Michigan than 11-1 with the lose being to Michigan.

  • MSU is better than UM right now...there is no arguing that. But on the historical stage, it ain't even close. If MSU competes for national championship type level for decade, like Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State and others have in the near future, that may change. But so far, no one is arguing that MSU belongs in that conversation. Maybe Dantonio is the guy to do it. But it will take a long time for those opinions to change.

Yes...right now they are a kin to a Texas Tech or OK State that rise up for a few good years only to fall back to the pack. Dantonio is a good coach and could possibly get them there, but he will need bigger wins than a rebuilding Michigan and a decimated OSU.

Good scientific sampling, your one person polling sounds credible you should go work in politics. I'm done with this thread, can't handle all the sour grape Michigan fans that can't deal with the loss. I'm onto Wisconsin. Xxmblow and Rico are leaders of the sour grape crew and their negativity is harshing my mellow.

Funny thing is most Ohio State fans I meet are way cooler than Michigan fans. Good state school with a common rival. Devidee is a major exception, guy is just a troll. Bbucksorbegone is a great example of what OSU fans are like. Jim Tressel sent us gold pants after beating Michigan last year. That's the kind of respect State fans typically get from Buckeye fans.

The last two UM posters are the typical sour grape fans. I don't care what they think about our rivalry, we will keep coming at them and they should be nervous about 5 straight. We are going to hurt you guys again in Ann Arbor.

Also, to the OP when they were drawing up the divisions there was serious talks of ending the UM OSU rivalry. The ratings have been abysmal and there was serious talks of finding OSU a better end of season rival and UM a more competitive game at the end of season like MSU. Fact.

    MSU clean...um, ok.

You will always be little brother to UM. To Ohio State? You aren't really anything.

A lot of instate rivals have the same gripe about non-alumni favoring one team. Utah fans bash BYU fans who didn't go there the same way MSU fans do to Michigan, because BYU has a stronger tradition and drew more fans, even though Utah has had more success in recent years.

The funny thing though is for MSU and Michigan, the opposite holds true in hoops. They don't seem to mind all the non-alumni in Michigan rooting for them the last decade in the NCAA tourney when Michigan wasn't there.

Interesting, I didn't know that. BTW thanks for not calling me a good OSU fan. I always felt I was a fair person, guess I am disillusioned.

Agreed, when I look at the pecking order for Michigan's rivals, I put OSU first, ND second, followed by MSU. Others see it differently, that's just the way I look at it.

You clearly have no grasp on how TV works. The ratings have been abysmal for the UM OSU game. The idea was to split it up and try get more money off two games than just one. TV cares more about the bottom line than tradition.
