I wish there were more/better OOC matchups each year ...

SOS should matter much more than it does.

Indeed, but do you not see the flaw in using one variable?

What did I say that would lead you to think that we should only use 1 variable?

You said using the Sagarin would be better than the BCS.

That's not what I said. I said that in this case the Sagarin ranking is far more realistic than the human poll ranking.

Realistic to what? They are used to measure different things.

  • Alabama plays a tough OOC opponent annually.

Oklahoma, VT, UCLA, FSU, Michigan, Penn State, Hawaii(in the June Jones era), Clemson with VT, WVU, Michigan State, and TBA slated over the next 5 years.

And that is great but I am talking about a plan where you play good teams all year. No FCS Schools, maybe only allowed one non AQ school to qualify for a bowl like they do now with playing a FCS school.

I am sorry but there has to be a way get games like LSU/Syracuse, LSU/NC State and LSU/UCLA and games along those lines every year. I use those schools because they are AQ schools, it is matchups that add some intrigue to the schedule, and ADs of theupper echelon programs would not have to worry about playing a top 10 team but still playing a relevant school in the eyes of the public.

Okay since you are playing devils advocate, do you realistically believe that NIU is the 15th best team in the country. What would their record look like if they played in the SEC or the Pac-14 ... They probably wouldn't be a bowl team if they had to play a grueling week in week out schedule. The depth just isnt there.

Yes and no. The Sagarin predictor is there to pretty much say who is better than who. The human polls on the other hand have absolutely no guidelines whatsoever.

  • Why would you play 3 decent OOC teams? That would be terrible. You need the 2 cupcakes on the slate to get a break from conference grind.

Also really limits your chances at a title. You play 12 good to great teams and even the best team in America could lose a game or two they shouldn't because at the end of the day, consistency out of college kids can't be expected every week.

I think your OOC should be tailored to compliment your conference slate. In the SEC, 1 top 25 team OOC suffices. You're basically cancelling out the worst team in your division and adding another upper tier team. Makes for a great schedule. In a weaker conference, play another top 30-35 team.

The Sagarin predictor has NIU in the 40's. That is a much more accurate ranking than 15 or 17.

I blame the Big Ten and Big East for sucking so hard

That's fine and all. I understand and agree with guidelines, but I disagree with one parameter.

If "EVERY TEAM" did this and it became standard practice their would be no advantage or disadvantage because every team is doing it.

As a Bama fan you cannot use the SEC is hard argument when your team regularly misses the best teams from the EAST. This would equal all that out in my opinion. cheers
