ITT: Let's discuss Indiana University football....

That would have been sweet! But in the meantime, I'm kinda butthurt with you guys flashin' y'alls team emoticons. cry

All this IU football talk got me thinking about the basketball program. Do you think they got things turned around finally after last season and are ready to get going again? Personally, I think that too many teams in the B1G and the rest of the midwest have made such large strides in the last decade and a half that I doubt IU can get back to being the dominant program in the B1G again.

  • Yeah IU and Mich should be the class of the B1G this year.

I agree that IU is set to have a good year this year. I am just talking about getting back to the Bobby days when it was IU except for a little run by MSU and then a small one by UM before they got busted.

The conference as a whole is a lot deeper now than it was in the 80's as Ohio St and Wisconsin are both top programs as well. No knock on IU.

  • Yeah OSU has hurt Indiana badly. We have taken a lot of premium talent from the area(and not done enough with it). The last 10 years OSU and MSU have been head and shoulders above the rest of the conference. They can't let the top players from Indiana keep coming to OSU.

It looks like now that Crean is locking down the state now though. Obviously can't get everyone but OSU has made a good living recruiting Indiana in the past

I do too. Indiana is a great basketball state. I think it's safe to say Indiana basketball wise is like the state of Ohio is for football. The only difference is Crean is actually locking down his state. biggrin

Btw, I saw that Trey Lyles de-committed.. Do you think he'll come back to IU eventually, or go somewhere else?

    Yea finally locking it down.

I dont see how he will be part of IU. He was committed for 2 years already. Who knows though. I dont see Crean and them not re recruiting him but a kid usually doesnt go to a school he de-committed from.

Can't recruit what little HS talent Indiana produces and a apathetic fan base. Bad job and if Wilson has success or somewhat he will bail immediately. Other than that nice campus, hot women and a basketball program that has risen again.

I live across from the football stadium and we seem pretty enthusiastic when it comes to tailgating. lol However, even if IU was decent at football it still wouldn't get half the attention that basketball does. It was pretty hilarious last year watching how crazy/happy the seniors were with the basketball teams success (especially the beating Purdue part).

    Ah.. sucks.

IU will most likely still have a top 5 class though.

Yea. They are in pretty good with some other top 25 kids in that class so hopefully it will be fine.

Going to be very interesting to watch IU and UM play this year.

Definitely.. We should be the best 2 teams in the Big Ten.

UM should be noticeably better inside this year. We were terrible last year at scoring points in the paint and rebounding, we had no big men last year. Mcgary should definitely help out with that. I'm thinking Elite 8 for UM when it's all said and done.

    IU will get back.

Look at it this way: If Kentucky experienced "down years" like Indiana did, do you think UK would get back?
