i've been reading a ton of vietnam and spec ops books lately.

horse soldiers: about the special forces group that went into afghanistan immediately following 9/11 w/ less than 20 operators, joined up w/ the northern alliance and routed the taliban inside of a month.

chickenhawk: about a helicopter pilot learning to fly and then immediately being sent to vietnam. may have been because that was my dad's exact scenario, but i think it's a great read for most anyone interested in military reads.

a bright shining lie, the story of john paul vann and america in vietnam: best book ever on why the vietnam conflict played out the way it did. follows jpv from the first expeditionary forces through is command of the entire army effort. actually read this one in college for an honors journalism class, but it's a fantastic read. need to read it again soon.

next read is going to be "the only thing worth dying for" which is the story of the special forces group that took southern afghanistan much like the horse soldiers did in the north. after that will be "not a good day to die" and "lions of khandahar."

I'm reading Farther Away right now, a collection of essays from Johnathan Franzen, widely considered to be the greatest American novelist of the last decade.

Just finished a book by Neil Gaiman called Anansi Boys. Good not great.

Also read Asterios Polyp, a graphic novel that is pretty damned wild.

If you're a Stephen King fan, the new Dark Tower novel, Wind Through the Keyhole, is good.

Oh, And anything by Vince Flynn.
