They are a good program, but not one of the top programs so they weren't going to get a big time name. Tuberville doesn't really fit Wisconsin. They needed to hire an up and coming coach and Anderson is one of the top up and comers out there.

then find one in a BCS conference, and actually spend some $. Like I said, the B10 will continue to have these mediocre years so long as B10 schools continue to settle for second tier coaches.

Who is a good up and coming coach in a BCS conference that would have left their school for Wisconsin?

Wisconsin like I said earlier isn't a top tier program they aren't going to spend tons of money on a coach.

We make the most money out of any conference. Why can't we spend the most?

Or look to do what PSU did.. BOB was a SOLID (not GREAT), but SOLID hire. BOB will do good for the conference.

Also, the b10 makes the most money which is divided equally.. why wouldn't they spend tons of money? Because they're okay being mediocre??

Only PSU, OSU and Michigan make tons of money from their athletic departments. Plus what big name coach would go to Wisconsin?

When BOB was first hired, people hated it. He turned out to be a great hire. Wisconsin is doing something similar to what PSU did. They are going after a good up and coming coach instead of a bigger more proven guy. I don't really think they could have gotten a big time proven coach though.

The only concern about BOB was his recruiting ability, since he had never had to do it.

he managed to win some games in the WAC? .... no way -_-

He's also recruiting and playing with WAC talent.. What conference was your coach winning games in before Florida hired him?

No one had really heard of him. He was famous for yelling at Tom Brady. He had recruited before, but only as a position coach. BOB coached in college more than in the NFL. He has turned out to be a great recruiter now, guy doesn't really have a weakness that we have seen yet.

That wasn't the only concern. He had never been a college head coach. He Ina's basically the same background weis had. Weis didn't fail because of recruiting. There certainly were other concerns with BOB other than recruiting.

You could be a little more wrong....... More years in college than the nfl.... Was George o'Leary not lying on his résumé away from being Notre Dames HC back in 03...

Wisconsin was 11th in the nation in revenue.

    Arkansas was 12th.

Luckily I didn't say he was great, and that's your opinion. Regardless, I was trying to say that using record as the main factor in your opinion of a coach is stupid....

Lane Kiffin is 32-18(0.64) in his NCAA HC career. Here is a list of recent NCAA coaches with worse winning percentages...

    Charlie Strong 24–14 (.632) Al Golden 40-45 (.471) James Franklin 14–11 (.560) Mark Dantonio 68-45 (.601) Brady Hoke 66-56 (.541) Pat Fitzgerald 49-39 (.556) Jim Harbaugh 29-21 (.58)

I'd rather have all of those coches not only based off coaching ability and Kiffin is a bigger douche than all of them combined.

Jim Harbaugh the only above average coach on that list, at this point in time.

Decent hire for Wisconsin, but they will likely take a step back from the Bielema era. The Urban Meyer Conference needs to spend more money on coaches, Purdue sorta stepped up but you can't tell me Wisconsin couldn't get better if they were willing to pay.

You can't argue with Buckeyes. All they care about is cache, which is funny since their academic institution has none.

  • What is up with the weird obsession Ohio State fans seem to have with Wisconsin? I never knew there was even a rivalry between the two schools until I came to this board

Wisky has been to three straight rose bowls.... OSU fans are having a hard time dealing with not being top dog.

  • The only people who think this is a joke of a hire are OSU fans. That should tell you something.

Utah State won 9 games in the 4 years before Andersen took over. He turned them into an 11-2 team, and did that in spite of BYU and Utah both being on the rise in the same state.

Wisconsin was gifted two with us and Penn State going through scandals. They were also beaten in those two, make it 3. Does anyone really talk about Wisky? They're irrelevant outside of the B1G. This move did nothing to change that.

Umm, none of the news you're making nationally of late is anywhere near positive. And, btw, your bowl record since 2006 is 2-4.

  • Good hire, IMO.

I think he is a really good coach. Has done a great job at one of the hardest places in the country to win. If you think winning is tough at some places, try being the 3rd program in a state like Utah.

He may very well be a good coach.

My question is why wasn't anyone else after him? There were a ton of openings this year. Did Anderson interview any where else? Why was he Wisconsin's 10th or so choice?

It seems to me if this guy was such a great coach other programs would have at least shown interest.

  • First response was that it is a decent hire. I think there's arguments both ways.

After Bill O'Brien...I don't feel like writing anyone off as a bad hire. Give him a chance to prove himself. I'll be interested to see how Andersen does.
