He may very well be a good coach.

My question is why wasn't anyone else after him? There were a ton of openings this year. Did Anderson interview any where else? Why was he Wisconsin's 10th or so choice?

It seems to me if this guy was such a great coach other programs would have at least shown interest.

I thought he was offered at Cal, UK, and CU. Obviously that's not Bama or UF or anything, but 4 programs apparently wanted him.

    I wasn't aware of that.

If that's true (and I haven't seen any indication that it is), it changes my perspective.

Those don't confirm the offers, but his name had a lot of buzz around it this year.

Colorado, and I know Cal was very interested. It's interesting. Utah State's OC and DC were first picks at NC State and Cal respectively. Guess where our OC and LB coach jumped ship to?

He had turned down offers to interview at Colorado (smart move, IMO). I am not sure how high he was on the list, but I know he was in consideration for Cal and UK as well.

I think with the way BB left, Alvarez wanted a guy that would feel like Wisconsin is an amazing job as well. I understand him being a nice guy and not going after Chryst, but that is who I would have gone after if it were me.

Alvarez is very particular as well with his hires. He has a strong feeling of what the direction of Wisconsin football should be and the style of football that they need to play to be successful because of their recruiting base. That thinking can lead to some being turned off by the idea of coaching there, IMO.

Hard to argue with Alvarez there. It has been good for them and being a Nebraska guy, I think he saw what happened to that program when they got away from what they were all about.

so you are calling a team last year that was 2 plays away from going to the MNC a gift. I have heard it all now.

Let's not get carried away here, you were at least 4 plays away from the NC game.

    1) tOSU hail mary

    2) MSU Hail Mary batted down would have forced OT for MSU/Wisky (30-30 tie), meaning . . .

    3) UW would have had to have at least 1 scoring play in OT and;

    4) forced a TO of MSU on their first possession.

I suppose UW could have gotten a pick-6 on the first play of OT, but that still means you were 3 plays away.

    Carry on wink_msu

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

    Isn't Andersen a spread guy?

EDIT: Nevermind. It doesn't appear that is.

He is a defensive guy foremost. His offenses at Utah St ran a spread and pistol offense, but they also ran for about 280 ypg in 2011 and 210 ypg in 2012.

The OC he had at Utah St came from Louisville via New Mexico. I would assume that if he came with him to Wisconsin that the approach would change some what.
