  • It's not a new book and it's huge, but I highly recommend David McCullough's "Truman". Currently reading it.

I'm currently on a kick of reading classics I had never gotten to read before, so I won't bother mentioning those.

But the last three non-classic that I read were:
    Mathletics
    Replay
    Scorecasting.

All three I would recommend... the first and last for people who like sports and statistics.

Just googled "Scorecasting". Tell me why you enjoyed it, if you don't mind.

It's essentially freakanomics for sports. Tries to prove/disprove popular conventions in sports. Some of their leaps in logic are pretty liberal, but overall a good read if you're interested in the subject matter.

For instance, it tries to show why the homefield advantage is tied to how the crowd subconsciously affects a referees decision. Also when its statistically better to go for it on fourth down, punt, etc. That kind of stuff.

  • I read A Long Way Gone a few years ago and loved it. I'm pretty sure it wasn't a huge book by any means.
