  • Going in march to visit friends. Prob hit DC for a couple hrs one day, but where in Baltimore should we go for fun at night? Also, what's a "gotta try once" restaurant or bar? Tia...I'll have to check back in a few hours, but I will be back.

Do you consider getting shot, stabbed or robbed fun?

  • Try not to die? After all, it is Bodymore, Murdaland.

Also, to paraphrase Chris Rock: "So, we invaded Iraq and took over the whole country in two weeks. Are you kidding me? Man, you couldn't take over Baltimore in two weeks?!"

    EDIT: Included video.

  • Go to Federal Hill for bar scene, not power plant .

If you are looking for crabs , dont eat at Phillips. I don't know of any good crab places in the city, could give you some suggestions outside of.the city. Fogo De Chao has.good steak, but you can eat that in several cities .

Don't listen to the rest of the idiots about the crime.

  • If you want to make sure you're safe it's besr you go to West Baltimore. Edmonson Ave, Poplar Grove, Scarey St(South Carey St), Monroe St, North Ave. All these streets are packed full of high end restaurants and bars:) Great part of Balmur hun. You can get a few bags of some excellent heroin, a big old crack rock and a toothless prosti. And in celebration you can fire handguns into the air. I love my hometown.

Seriously though aviod West, East, South and North Baltimore. Lol. Downtown is the only relatively safe area. The Inner Harbor is nice and you can get good food in that area. If you want good crabs go to Lexington Market. Prime Rib is an excellent restaurant if you want a good steak. The areas that have the best restaurants and bars and it is safe are Federal Hill, Inner Harbor, Fells Point, Mt Vernon, Hamden. You'll have a good time in all of those areas, but don't stray too far out of those areas.

Baltimore is very deceiving. You can be in a really nice part of the city, but walk two blocks away and be in the ghetto. It's like any other city though. There's rough areas anywhere and nice areas anywhere. Stick with the places I mentioned above and you'll have a good time.

Btw if you want to stay in a really classy hotel and unique to Baltimore stay at the Black Olive Inn. It's an awesome place to stay. It's in Fells Point near the Bay and the restaurant that's a part of the Inn is one of the best places to eat in the city.

LOL at the responses. I've heard it's rough, but figured it's like anywhere else...just gotta go to the right places. Thanks for the advice. Fortunately, our friends will probably know how to keep us alive, but it's always good to get a wider array of opinions. We have a friend here in Tuscaloosa thats a surgeon, and he grew up in Baltimore. He said there are some cool places downtown, so I figured he probably wouldn't have said that if there weren't cool places. Our friends live between DC and Baltimore, and hit both cities when they can, but they also have a 9 month old son, so they don't get out like they used to. I've been to Detroit, Chicago, and LA...is it really any worse than that? (OK, so LA really wasn't bad at all. I did skip Compton, though.)

  • Well the positive for you is you aren't going to Detroit.

    Go bucky go

  • Amazed at some of these answers. How shocking, I bet most have never even been.

Baltimore's a great place with a lot of charm, but you have to know what you are doing. The worst areas of the city are so secluded you will never seen them (far away from downtown).

As keep on ducking said Innder Harbor, Federal Hill, Fells Point, Canton are all filled with young people and great bar/nightlife hotspots. Locust Point used to be a working class area but it's now filled with young people and other great bars. East Harbor is very new and has some very exclusive places.

As for some true Baltimore/Maryland culture, Hampden and Little Italy are great places. Mount Vernon and Chalres Street has a great artsy culture too, love some of their restaurants/museums/theatre. And for nightlife, Rams Head Live and Power Plant Live are very exciting.

Have a good time, it's hard not to. Cuisine, bars, nightlife, exciting young people, it's got it all.
