ITT, why your team will be better this year/and why it wont

  • I know everyone is going to better than the year before, just like last year. It doesn't matter if you lose 19 starters, the ones behind them are better, we all know that.

    For SC:

    * Running Back: Losing a top 5, perhaps top 3 Heisman hopeful from last year was a big blow. The kid is a monster and is 100%

    * QB: We only lost 2 games and 1 was 100% on shoulders of Stephen Garcia(he was always good for 2 of those a year) Where he would turn it over 4-5 times, usually on wtf was he thinking mode. Shaw came on, and really improved as he played more. I expect him to take another step.

    * Clowney/Taylor/Quarles: Losing MI6 in first round would hurt any line, but Quarles/Clowney were both very disruptive as true freshman. Now that Clowney understands a little bit about what he is supposed to do, he will be almost unblockable, which will free up Devin and Kelcy.

    * Arkansas: The team has been clubbing us but their off season makes one of our 4 toughest games look much better.

    Why we wont:

    * Teams we play got better: Outside Arkansas, who still is good, LSU/UGA look beastly. UF if they can figure out their qb situation should have a great defense and ton of NFL talent on roster

    * Alshon: Until someone steps up and is the go to receiver, there will be a big question mark. Boatload of options, including his lil brother, Shaq Roland, D. Byrd, Ace, etc.. but one has to be the go to(may actually come from TE's)

    * Coaching turnover: Several coaches were hired away. How will losing guys, especially the likes Ellis Johnson affect team?

    10-2 regular season is guess at this point. Think we lose ugly at LSU(17-3) or something like that where our offense looks putrid, and either an ugly one versus Florida, and a classic against UGA(we almost always have a one play game vs the dawgs)

  • For us, if we can keep a healthy QB this year we should do better, 9-3 regular season or better...

  • Fin I would add our OL should be better. Watkins could be an NFL guard but was out of position at LT. As far as I'm concerned we replaced Kyle Nunn already since he missed the last half of the season. Good to see him able to play vs Nebraska. I think every position on it should be improved.

  • We return almost all of our defense, and we replace a 2 star QB with a 4 star QB, so we will be twice as good at QB.

    Why we could be worse: if Texas ATM steals our staff members.

  • We finally have an offensive coaching staff, a much improved S&C program and our division in the B1G kinda stinks.

    But we still have the same issues at QB, lost most of our OL (even though they weren't very good) and have a whole bunch of new schemes to learn so there will be growing pains.

    Since when did stars mean anything at all? There is no correlation between stars and future success. #sparty'd

  • Well, besides Mike Bobo still calling plays and the huge question marks at O-Line, UGA has little to worry about.

    Offense:
    QB = More mature/experienced, hopefully?
    RB = Much greater depth/health, top incoming freshmen
    TE = Should be much more capable of blocking
    WR = All of the playmakers are still there, Malcolm Mitchell splitting time at CB is a bad thing?
    OL = Remains to be seen???

    Defense:
    DL = Maybe the 2 best DT's playing at NT in the SEC
    LB = Probably the best LB corp in the SEC if Ogletree stays healthy, keep an eye out for 2 All-Americans, expect Jordan Jenkins to earn reps
    CB = Lost Brandon Boykin, Malcolm Mitchell picking up slack during potential suspensions
    S = Returning starters inlcudes All-American
    DC = Todd Grantham's 3rd year @ UGA

    Now, there's plenty of reason for us to be optimistic for 2012. But, last year we got to see a pre-season All American kicker completely fall apart in his senior year. So you never can see 100% of the picture.

  • The Big Orange Nation may begin to breathe new life this year if all new players qualify and the older ones have grown up.

    3 wide receivers with legitimate 4.4 speed plus a beast with Rogers and a monster tight end, and the running backs are just as fast and both can catch the ball.

    If Bray can read and throw they could be fun to watch.
