Texas is a huge issue, culturally, in the PAC. Great school and I applaud them for the power they have built around them, but that would never fly in the PAC. I doubt Notre Dame would be a problem at all...we know them well.

Too many strong and powerful universities for any one to be the top dog in the PAC. We share...Texas would only tolerate being #1 in whatever conference they belong to...THAT would cause major problems that could tear the conference apart. Not having that.

That is the same view the B10 has of UT. They are a homerun in just about every category, but they also will be a major destabilizing force. UT will want special privileges on the way in and will constantly threaten to leave whenever they don't get their way. That is not the culture in the B10. My belief is UT is much better off in a conference in which it can be king. And if UT is smart it will compromise enough to make the B12 a long-term survivor. Unfortunately, UT has a great deal of difficulty compromising about anything. Deloss Dodds was on ESPN this week fighting against any expansion in the B12 (UT wants to stay at 10). A 10-team B12 might be great for UT, but it's a ticking time bomb for the remaining schools in the conference. Does UT care? Nope.

I much prefer what our two conferences are doing....we have a long history together, and our goals are very similar. It goes beyond football, and athletics...

So do I, but ND and UT are the sirens that keep calling out. They are hard to resist. On paper, they look too good to be true. And that is probably exactly what they are.

P.S. I love the B10-P12 partnership on regular season games. It will force all of the teams in both conferences to dump a forgettable opponent and provide some great games every year to watch. In fact, our AD has hinted at a P12 opponent that will be on our schedule as early as 2014. We don't know who, but are dying to find out.

So far, only Boston College on the OOC schedule in 2014. biggrin USC loves this for the fact that it has been tough scheduling OOC opponents, not many wish to voluntarily do this, for a home and home. You have to respect the fact that both conferences recognize that they have just made it more difficult to contend for a National Championship. They see the greater picture.

I have to say this of Notre Dame...while I think both universities consider each other their #1 rivalry, with a lot of healthy hate, there is also the respect.

They have proven they can share alright, we get together every other year in L.A. at the Bonaventure Hotel for a joint fundraiser that benefits both universities. We sit side by side and celebrate the rivalry. How often does that happen?

They kept us on the schedule when a win over USC didn't mean so much...we have done the same. To the majority of Trojans, Notre Dame has been a quality rival, and they have proven they are loyal to those who have been loyal to them. I believe that the other PAC powers like Stanford, feel the same way...and that Notre Dame may be the only religious school those heathens in the North would gladly accept into the conference. biggrin

  • Texas had their chance to come to the Conference of Champions, then at the 11th hour decided to not relent on the LHN. CoC told them to kick rocks.

Notre Dame has a contract with NBC that runs through 2016 I believe. Only conference that is compatible with is the Big-12.
