Sorry this will be long, but here's my take - The last 3 days have proved what I have been saying all year,
but finally it's more than just me talking about it, now everyone has seen it with their own eyes.
Hold on SEC people, just hear me out on this. The season started with Alabama smashing a Michigan team that had been ranked as high as #8. But Michigan turned out to be the 5th best team in the Big 10. They nearly lost at home to Air Force the next week and could have easily finished 5-7 or 6-6 after beating Nwestern in OT and Mich St by 2.
Then two Pac teams that had been shitty the year before, UCLA and Oregon St, beat Nebraska and Wisconsin. But instead of giving those Pac teams credit, the perception just became that the Big 10 was more terrible than ever this year. I even bought into that a little bit, especially when Cal almost beat Ohio State.
So as Ohio State just kept winning it was dismissed as the Big Ten is shitty. But then 2 even match-ups happened between the SEC and B1G and the results changed the perception or at least should have. By even, I mean the #5 team from the B1G (Michigan) played the #5-6 team from the SEC (South Car) and gave them all they could handle and basically had SCar on the ropes, but UM lost in the last few seconds.
Let me back up - Some might disagree with how I came to the conclusion that Michigan is the 5th best team in the BIG. Obviously OSU is #1, then it get's tricky, but I would go Wisconsin #2, Nebraska #3, and Penn St #4.
Although the Penn St guy has a point because they beat Wisconsin by 3 at home, but Nebraska also beat Penn St by 9 at home, but IMO a 40 beat beatdown on a neutral field for the Conf title trumps all of that and Wisconsin comes in solid at #2 and they played like it against Stanford. Nebraska beat Penn St by 9 and Michigan by 14. Although Michigan didn't play either Wisky or Penn St, their best win was in OT vs Nwestern, which makes it easy to see that Michigan is #5 and Nwestern #6, followed closely by Mich St at #7 who lost to Nwestern by 3.So the other even match-up was the #3 team from the BIG Nebraska vs the #2 or #3 team from the SEC Georgia.
Georgia got the win 45-31, Nebraska proved they could play with UGA leading 31-23 near or at the end of the 3rd quarter. Now the #6 team from the B1G Nwestern beat the #7 SEC team Vandy by 10 earlier this year and beat the #8-9 SEC team Miss State by 14.So after considering all that take a look at Alabama & Ohio State's resumes.
The # is the conference rank of the team.#1 Alabama (in order of best wins) #1 Ohio State
=========================================
#3/4 @LSU 21-17 ........................#2@Wisconsin 21-14
#2/3 Georgia 32-28.......................#3 Nebraska 63-38
Michigan 41-14..............................#5 Michigan 26-21
#8/9 Miss State 38-7......................#4 Penn St 35-23
#8/9 Ole Miss 33-14.......................#7@Mich State 17-16With Ohio St being undefeated, and Bama having the loss to #5/6 A&M,
one of Bama's main wins has gets eliminated to balance out the loss.
(So the possible win over ND stays off the list ).Considering that Ohio St and Wisconsin demolished Nebraska, and Georgia beat Nebraska by 14.
Considering that the #5 teams of each conf Michigan and South Car played an even game
Considering that wins over Penn St and Mich St are much better wins than Miss St and Ole Miss.
Considering that Florida had the most impressive resume within the SEC beating LSU, A&M, South Car,
and losing to Georgia by 1 score, only to lose to a Louisville team that lost to UConn and to Syracuse by 20.Alabama's resume, even with a win over ND doesn't look more impressive to me than Ohio State's
anymore after seeing LSU lose to Clemson, Georgia struggle with Nebraska, and Florida lose to Louisville, and
Northwestern beat Miss State after having already beaten Vandy. That's just my very long opinion.Jefe5235

I think its a stretch to call the SC UM game even. SC won by 5, had 70 more offensive yards, averaged nearly double the ypp, had 120 more return yards, etc. Only reason the game was in doubt at the end was that SC went 0-2 on field goals and UM went 3-3.
I'm getting a kick out of B1G fans using close games as a way of making yourselves feel better. Even players like Lewan and Martinez are in on it. Did y'all have a conference mandate to lose to us then talk smack?

the sec's biggest problem this bowl season has been the thinking that all i have to do is show up mind frame. we have all been reading about how good we are and not getting ready to for a 60 minute war. the teams that are winning these battles are the ones who want it the most. they want it more than we do.i hope bama comes to play and doesn't listen to alot of bama fans that think we have already won the game. i have tremendous respect for notre dame and expect a 60 minute game. if we do not play our best game we will get our ass beat.

LSU fan here
The LSU offensive scheme needs a big change. LSU has been poor on offense for 5 years. IMHO, LSU has great talent all over the field with depth, and frankly should have beaten a good Clemson team by 10-14, they outplayed and should have beat Bama, and should have beat UF but blew that game and the opportunities they had in the first half.
IF LSU will actually change their offense and be unpredictable, I think they could be Elite again...right now, they are very talented and underachieving due to offensive scheme.
LSU may lose 6-8 JR's to the NFL draft...that's a boat load of talent for 10-3 team. Not all those guys should go, but it's sounds like they might.
The SEC in bowls this year has been interesting... I honestly think UF vs. Louisville is an uninteresting match up. did you see the attendance? Pathetic! I know Louisville type teams want respect, but come on, they played the 123 rd raked schedule... Go play UF in the swamp, or USCe or UGA in athens, or even come play LSU in BR in early October...win there a few times, then you can be considered a team worthy of respect and get better preseason hype and rankings ...Until then, you will be perceived as "privileged" to attend the sugar bowl beating basically nobody and only having to amp up for one big bowl game. Beating UF is a big deal, beating UL isn't....that's just they way things are...Strong is an excellent coach and will leave for bigger program before long
