If FSU only had a punter, FG kicker and a defense next year...

  • We would still go 10-2 at least

The FG kicker would be used for when we didn't house a INT or fumble all the way for 6, plus you need somebody for extra points when you do return them for 6

Discuss ITT how jelly you are of what will certainly be a defense that pisses all over anybody from the SEC, I would put UF up there with us but they lost Floyd and Elam and that is a substantial loss imo

Think what you want Gator, but FSU's defense is silly right now

I haven't been this excited for a defense at FSU ever in my life, and a new coach came at just the right time

Joyner moving to corner has me tickled pink and was a move that was long overdue, or should I say never should have happened in the first place but back then we had no safeties really

  • Fsu hasn't had this talented of a defense in a while. I cant wait to see a more agressive defense. I am curious about our de though. I did think Edwards played well when he got more reps.

Im curious but not worried about DE, they are younger than last year but far more talented and the depth is much deeper

If somebody tells me that Werner and Carradine are more talented than Edwards and Casher they are fools, its that simple... I will say they probably don't equal the sack total as Werner and Carradine but we should get more sacks as an entire defensive unit

Im willing to say this is the most talented defense FSU has ever had

When you have Matthew Thomas type talent coming off the bench, shit is real

I love it for sure, and at the end of the day it might be the strongest unit but LB and DT will see major upgrades in talent and depth as well imo

Jernigan McAllister and Goldman are a better top 3 than Jernigan, McCloud and Dawkins

and that should help a lot too in terms of overall improvement

But aside from everything I can be excited about, Karlos finally starting is #1 on my plate

He is gonna end up being my favorite Nole ever, I can feel it panic

Nope, you are just a moron who doesn't know dick about FSU

FSU has had some great defenses sure, but nothing like what they have now

Mainly cause most of the time we haven't even before seen a Miami this down and an overall open market in south florida

You will see, Im damn near 30 years old... lived through most of the Dynasty and know what talent looks like

FSU has never had a defense this talented, the second unit would still be the best defense in the ACC much like the old days

But these days we see an ACC that is much better and deeper with good teams

Pretty funny you talking about age though with an anime avatar coffee

Florida didn't dominate our defense though, they only passed for like 114 yards

Like all of FSU's downfalls last year, they were all offensively inflicted wounds

UF didn't start running down our face until well into the 4th quarter, and when our best player was lost for the game

They attacked his side and the rest is history

Rivalry games are tricky, and especially when you have a real rival with a pulse.... unlike Bama who could sit their starters and still win

To be fair, I am not sure if Florida topped 500 yards in passing for the entire season. lol

    lol true

And in all honesty we need to forget last year, you know Im pretty realistic

FSU's defense was good last year, and the numbers show they beat up on weak teams

I truly believe that next year will more likely be the best defense in the country

I was pretty fair last year in saying that Bama and UF were better last season, I just trolled Bama fans by saying how I thought FSU was close to them cause I knew it would bother the morons in your fan base

FSU's defense was fun to watch last year despite some serious injuries, and next year they are set to explode with a philosophy that better suits the talent they have

  • Nova, do you remember the defense when fsu won the national title? that "D" was very loaded. Andrews had a 1st team and 2nd team and the 2nd team defense was just as good.

Not sure if you mean 93' or 99'

The 93 defense was the best all time for FSU imo, and this unit is easily right there with them

The 99' defense was good, and mainly built on speed... I also think the 2013 Noles D is right there with this group

All they have to do is go out and prove, and Im convinced they will

Im going to the spring game just to watch this group of kids play defense, I haven't been this excited for a defense ever in my life

And I have followed FSU hard since I was 8 or 9 years old, I know good and well what they had back then

Also for the record, those teams second units weren't as good... they were just very good in their own right, this years defense is no different

FSU's second team is loaded with guys who would start on 98% of the defenses throughout the rest of america

FSU is gonna have to force some turnovers, this yr. I'm guessing Pruitt will be a more aggressive playcaller than Stoops.

At least early on, with a new starter at qb.

    CRgator1

  • I think it was the '99 team that beat Mike Vick. Vick had never seen speed like that. DE's/lbs running hime down.

No doubt, that is the only weakness of last year

And it was a strength for you guys and the clear difference between us as teams, look no further than our game as proof

Stoops did what he was brought in to do, now its Pruitt's turn to take us to the next phase and that is a defense that attacks you like Mickey's did back in the day at FSU

Im confident turnovers should come along with this change in philosophy

Its not like Karlos and company can't get picks and force fumbles, they just need to be coached to do so imo

There's no doubt that FSU had a solid defense. They looked less than stellar at times because of the offense. Clemson, Florida, and Va Tech were only games they didn't play at least good to great, IMO.

FSU's defense talent wise is right there with Alabama and LSU, IMO. Actually, Alabama's defense was a little down last season, but the offense never put them in a bad situation (minue the 1st quarter of the aTm game) and it made things look better than they were. That defense had great moments, but it was nothing like 2011's defense. That defense didn't need anything from the offense.

My only concern honeslty is with Jeremy Pruitt. He is a great recruiter and could be a great DC, but I do question his experience. He was a high school guy not too long ago and after that was an administation guy (player personel) at Bama. He's only been a college coach for 3 years at that was as the DB coach at Bama, which is really what Saban does.

He could be a great one though as there is nothing but him just being a little bit of an unknown for me to go against him. I do know though that if Smart would have left, it probably would have been a 50/50 chance that Pruitt would have been the DC at Bama, so Saban must have thought highly of him.

Good new for him is that he has a very talented defense that can make up for some mistakes and a great LB coach in Sunseri that I truly love as a coach.....and he isn't a bad recruiter either.

Yeah that defense was damn good, but nowhere near as talented as this one

The 93' defense was the best, and right now the only thing separating the two is the fact this one hasn't hit the field yet

Brooks would have likely been the best player overall on either one, but the talent is deeper on this group

Outside of Brooks nobody else really made a name for themselves off that 93' defense

I imagine this Nole defense will be different when their NFL time comes years later

    No doubt solid post

I appreciate you understanding that its a team sport, and you defense will only be as good as your offense allows them to be

If FSU had Bama's run game and clock management they would have likely been ranked #1 in everything last year
