If Your School Got The Death Penalty...

  • What would you do? Find another team to pull for? Stop following CFB altogether? Would you support them when the program came back?

    I would support them all the way back. I would probably not pay as close attention as I would normally, but I am a football fan above all. I love my Huskers dearly though.

    Probably this. Finding a new team would not be in the cards since I go to Oregon, but I'd probably just get really angry at CFB in general.

  • In theory it's tough to root for a team that cheats, but I've dedicated too much time to Mizzou (both as a student and fan) to turn my back on them. I'd support them 100%, but I'd probably renew my passion for FSU as well. I'm a Chiefs and Royals fan, so I'm used to constant losing...it sucks and I couldn't imagine it for college sports. I live by that stuff.

    I've posted the story before, but I grew up a FSU fan despite being from KC. That changed, though, as I became a student. My first year at Mizzou was 2007 when they went on their magical run, ultimately being crushed by OU. So for my Mizzou history (which is probably shorter than any other's fandom here), I'm used to a clean program and winning. I was always a Mizzou basketball fan, and they are historical underachievers, so yes - I am used to losing.

    But you are correct, historically Mizzou is about as bad as Iowa State. Sickening.

  • I would deny, deny, deny and then start blaming everyone else including their mother. We would unite as a fan base and play the "us against the world" card. Once we were found guilty I would wish misery on every other fan base. Then I would take a deep breath and think to myself " what's the big deal. We've been on a self-inflicted death penalty for 18 years now, I can deal with this." Would beg the university to hire Butch Davis to get us moving in the right direction, once he had been our coach for three years I would fire the man, and bring in Barry Switzer. Awww, that would be the best. Go IRISH!

  • Well, I'm still a die hard SC fan even though they received the "baby death penalty" as four years probation, a two year bowl ban, and a loss of 30 rides is the second harshest snactions in college football history behind only SMU. I must say, landing back to back top five recruiting classes does ease the pain, though.

  • I'd move out of the southeast, that's for damn sure. As far as another team, I am a Nebraska fan. So I guess my energy usually given to the alma mater would go to Nebraska. I spent most of my childhood cheering for only one team anyway, and that was Nebraska.
