If the NBA dissappeared

  • NBA is god dam gay- they are all buddy buddy now... There's no hate between teams or players anymore... Melo should take lebron down next game- call him a sissy boy!

Having all the stars in the big markets or on a few teams is good for a competitive league ? did I read that correctly ? cause if so that makes zero sense

So a few big markets get more money and better players yet the rest of the league goes bankrupt cause they have no stars and no chance to win

Yeah, that sounds great for the NBA moving forward.... well in terms of hoping it dies for sure

    Exactly what I meant.

Right now there are about 8 or so star heavy teams in big markets like Chicago, LA, Boston, Miami, Orlando, and Dallas that are all relatively competitive with each other.

Much better than 1999-2007 when (other than the Lakers) teams like the Pistons, Spurs, Nets, 76ers were running the league.

If you don't want to watch that's fine, but ratings are as good as they have been in 15 years.

  • I would actually like to see an end to the mainstream coverage the NBA receives. It's like they are trying to force it down our throats even though not many people actually care about it.

lulz more people have televisions smart guy... a lot more

And games are on a multitude of channels, unlike Jordan era or before that when games only came on sundays on network TV

No shit the ratings are way better

TV ratings are done by percentage smart guy.

  • I would care because I love it and its my second favorite sport.

I never understood the “completive balance” argument when it comes to the NBA. It works for the NFL, because the NFL is a team league more than it it’s a “stars” league. The NBA is and always will be a stars league. People don’t want to see a 16 team completive playoff like the NHL. People want too see Jordan’s Bulls, Magic’s Lakers, Birds Celtics, Kobe and Shaq’s Lakers, and now Durant and Westbrooks Thunder, and The Big 3’s Miami Heat.

People hated it when complete teams like the mid 2000’ns Pistons, last years Mavericks, and too a lesser extent the Spurs won.

So then explain it to me

There are also a lot more people in this country, how does none of this tie into ratings ?

And having ESPN/ABC, NBAtv, TNT and TBS all playing games doesn't hurt either, right ?

I certainly don't think the NBA is more popular now than it was, more people have turned their back on it iyam

  • I really hoped that the NBA would institute a franchise tag so fans could follow players. Trying to find a likeable NBA player is harder than finding a retired hooker that's still a virgin.

ratings are based off percentage of the market share. number of viewers to a show divided by total number of televisions in the US.

  • If there were no NBA, there would be fewer riots in Los Angeles and I wouldn't have to worry about my car being destroyed by hoodlums since I'm roughly two miles from Staples Center...

/ I would miss it, but I watch a ton of other sports (when I have cable and not in school...)

LOL. Wow. Why would they do it just based off the actual number of people watching? It would be kinda difficult to get accurate trends considering population shifts.

What did you think it meant when ratings were reported as 1.5 or 12 shares? It means share of the market.

    TroyTide

  • I would barely notice. MLB Network & ESPNU mean that I can watch sports shows without having to be force feed sports I don't care about. Technological and media advances are beautiful things. Now if only they would quit talking about the NFL on CFB Saturday's I would have it licked.
