If the SEC goes to 16 teams, does the schedule get easier?

  • I am assuming if we go to 16 teams that we will only have 1 cross division game (for most teams it will probably be a rivalry like AUvsUGA, UTvsBama, etc). So if we add Vtech and NCst (or whoever), then we don't have to play the juggernauts from the West.

    We would be potentially be replacing a game vs a top team from the West with a Vtech/Nc st. Also remember we already replaced 1 game when we went to 14 teams and added Mizzou/aTm to the schedule.

    As a UGA fan, give me Mizzou/NC St instead of Bama/LSU any day of the week.

  • Not really if they do it like the NFL and have you play a whole division.

    If you play the West you could have to play:LSU,Texas A&M, Arkansas, and Missouri (would get two solid teams this year); Middle (Alabama,Auburn,Ole Miss, Mississippi State); North (Kentucky,Tennessee,Georgia,Vandy); East (NCST,USCe,UF,VT).

    Edit: just depends on the year, just like now really

    Are they talking about dividing into 4 divisions as opposed to 2 ? If they go to 4 divisions, you need a playoff to determine the winner of the SEC.

    Umm, you haven't played the juggernauts from the West in at least 2 years. Don't think the SEC schedule could get much easier for UGA or Bama if they tried...

    You are right about Bama THIS year. We dodged UGA, UF and USCe this year but it's the first time that I can remember that we haven't at least played one of those teams. Hell before this year we've played UF like 4-5 years straight.

    I know and its only going to get easier IMO. Auburn and UT will eventually be back up to winning 7-8 games a year and playing us tough.

    I don't see the SEC doing that, the SEC winner would play a reg. season schedule, then 2 games for the SEC play off and the 2 more for the NCAA play off. I just don't see that happening. It would also pretty much guarantee that only 1 SEC team would make it into the NCAA playoff (the others losing would drop them out of the top 4)

    First off, the playoff isn't decided on a ranking basis.

    Second off, all the conference would have to do is drop one OOC, which would be feasible and worthy given the new revenue.

    Also, once we get 4 16 team conferences, the game amounts would be uniform for all four anyways.

  • If we add two more teams from North Carolina or Virgina, Missouri will more than likely move to the West and the two new schools would go to the East. I'd see it like this:

    West

    Alabama
    LSU
    Texas A&M
    Auburn
    Mississippi State
    Ole Miss
    Arkansas
    Missouri

    East

    Florida
    UGA
    Tennessee
    USCe
    Vanderbilt
    Kentucky
    UNC
    Duke/NC State/Virginia

    So basically, the East would trade Missouri for North Carolina and pick up Duke/NC State/Virgina. I could see us canceling one OOC game and adding another cross division SEC game. That would give us 9 in-conference games and 3 OOC games. I know as a fan I would MUCH rather play another SEC game than OOC anyway. In fact, that would be ideal IMO.

    I would rather play all conference games, except one rivalry game. The OOC games vs FCS teams and terrible D1 teams are stupid and I don't see how the money makes sense to do it .

    If you split them up into 2 divisions, no doubt in my mind that it makes things easier for the SEC all around. If you go the 4 division route, maybe not so much.

  • IMO, its only a matter of time after the 16 team super conferences are formed and the next step will be to start adding more games to the schedule (revenue). They will figure out a way to have a 17 week schedule like the NFL and a big play off at the end. All the while trying to convince everyone that CFB is about the student athlete and not money

    Would you rather play Mizzou/aTm ( i know you are an aggy) or 2 of the top teams from the East like it used to be (if you cycled those teams that year). I would rather play NC st/UVA/etc. rather than possibly drawing 2 good teams from the West.

    You know that teams like UVA/NC St are not going to be good teams in the SEC, its just not possible.

    You're freaking out man. Four 16 team conferences is a good thing, especially with a playoff. It prevents garbage teams from getting in.

    I am all for it. I like the play offs and hope they decide to add more games as well.

    After the 16 team superconferences are assembled, the next thing will be more games IMO. Especially with the current state of nearly every AD in the country and the fact that they all rely on football money
