I'm so sick of hear FSU has an SEC style defense...

  • I like LSU, a lot, my uncle teaches there. That said, in terms of this year, how is it people rank there defense ahead of ours? Auburn's O is not anything special and Washington is overrated. Not to say they are not better; but is it just based on the conference they play in and the past few years?

If bama fans had a top 5 defense list, it would only contain their team. That is, seemingly, the way it is. By which I intend no slight to their defense, it is superb.

Can't speak for the other 2 spots, but I'd have LSU and Stanford in there as well.

I would put UW ahead of Murray St, Savannah St, and Wake Forest. Auburn is probably ahead of those as well honestly.

That's the deal with FSU's defense. It's one game with players that were at least 3* talent on the other side, they looked average to good, not great. That's really the only game we can judge them by.

You are discrediting Clemson offense which is very good nearly elite... lets not forget that... FSU struggled to start the game, no doubt... but they settled in and adjusted... lets not jump to saying the defense isn't elite... this could very well be the only team to score like that on FSU...

Is FSU defense the best... nope and I have said so before... but they are top 5.... and that isn't shabby at all...

  • I would put UW ahead of those teams as well. However, how much room for "better defense" was allowed in those scores? I am also thinking you are refering to Clemson's O-line as three stars, if you are refering to clemson at all, because their skill players were highly ranked out of highschool.

    PensacolaNole89

  • Clemson's offense is good, nowhere near elite.

Any offense thats sporting an oline as bad as that, cannot be considered elite. Thats why they probably needed all the trick plays.

They are elite...especially in the skill position... the trick plays was more to take advantage of our aggressive defense... again this doesn't mean FSU defense is the best...

Clemson's offense is pretty good. You had to expect FSU would give up some points but 37? That's too many to call a defense elite. FSU very well may have a top 5 defense but there is nothing to suggest that as of now. They played 3 horrible offenses and then gave up 37.

To be fair, Alabama hasn't played an offense worth a damn. First team defense has given up 14 all season, all by Michigan, but I don't think our defense is as good as it appears. It's very good but not as dominant as the stats so far suggest.

Then tell me, what kept FSU's offense from exploding last season? It was injuries, especially on the oline right?

A patchwork oline will never allow an offense to be elite. Skill players being elite are nothing w/o elite oline play.

Honestly Clemson scored once after a muff... And once after the game was over and celebrated... Lol i am not calling us the best defense at all... But Clemson had some tricks that would work on any defense Bama included... When Sammy has the ball in his hands you bite... O but he can throw...then add that brooks had over looked his zone for Sammy and you have a wwide open play... Then their online held us on every play yet they went a whole half with no calls... Including a face mask that just iced how the refs were against us....im not disappointed in our defense...clemson took advantage of a lot and im glad we beat a good team...

Clemson has a different blocking scheme than FSU... The spread allows for larger gaps making it a little easier on the oline...

My point was more that no one that FSU had faced before Clemson had anyone. Wake Forest is a team of 2 stars and I doubt the other 2 even had anyone close to that.

Clemson has a good offense, averaging 39 points per game. They got 37 at FSU.

Our D shut them down in the second half once Stoops made adjustments... He was being out coached the first half... And honestly call me when Bama plays a good team cause honestly your schedule has been a joke...

Our schedule a joke,, maybe . But coming from FSU that is laughable.
You have played 3 high schools and a very mediocre Clemson team.
Now proceed to prop up Clemson as you were doing. But they belong in the top 10 like Michigan does....
If FSU is elite on D then AU must be NFL quality.... And MSU hung 28 on them.

It was a solid win by FSU. Im just saying that Clemson is still a work in progress, as a whole. Their offensive/defensive lines are avg at best.

But, the gm was never in doubt imo. Jimbo couldve ran a ball control type offense and Clemson wouldn't have that many pts. I think thats what a lot of people are not realizing.

37 was a lot of pts, but it is misleading. If Jimbo calls 12-15 more running plays, especially against Clemson's def, FSU runs away with that gm. FSU avg 7.2 yds/carry. So obviously if FSU just pounded the rock, Clemson gets shorted out of 2 maybe even 3 possessions.

Only point I was making was that Bama fans are the main people talking crap when honestly you don't have much to base off of yet... I don't doubt you but I also cant say you will step up when you play LSU who I think is your only test of the year....

I dont think he lost his cool.

He let his qb ball out, and I applaud him for that. Jimbo couldve been selfish and called 20 passing plays instead of those 35.

exactly. FSU and Miami started the whole fast defense trend in the 80s, dont know why everyone forgets that. smaller faster guys. safeties as linebackers. linebackers as DEs, Des as tackle. beat everyone off the ball

That sounds good but look at it from the true perspective. SEC does not use smaller players in those different positions. We just use big players who are just as fast a the smaller guys. Part of the reason why the SEC gets over half of the top 100 talent every year. Don't believe me...check the rosters. Never have I seen a Safety who was 6'4" 255lbs (Hightower)...you? How about a Linebacker who was 6'3" 301 (Dareus)? Bigger, Stronger, Faster...not smaller!

  • Sigh... Clemson oline did very well early in the game... is it hard to give them any credit ...
The defense eventually wore them down... they are still elite.. how many offense would tiu say is better than Clemsons... not many... yea we gave up 37... but it isn't like all good defenses don't have bad games... some are acting ad if this is some new thing... it happens..

Our defense has given up 21 points over the past 6 games. First team has given up only 14. That is elite.

Auburn gave up 26 to Clemson. Granted that was without Watkins but their defense is far from elite. FSU may prove to have an elite defense but right now you can't call them that when they've given up 37 to the only opponent with a pulse.

    HADOUKEN

  • South Carolina has a better defense than FSU. ACC is pansy football.

    CousinEddie

  • FSU fans must have a completely different definition of elite than me. Elite defenses do not give up almost 40 points and over 400 yards at home. Clemson has a good offense, but they are far from elite, dont kid yourselves. FSU has a good defense, but it is far from the top defense in the country like many were claiming, and definetly not elite.

    jayalanbama7

  • is this the same elite defense that was tourched for 70 by a Big East club just a few months back ? violin
