I'm very pleased about this hospital not hiring obese people....

Your attempts to muddy the debate with these semi-witty rhetorical responses isn't impressive. Add something or don't.

We're talking about a choice people are making that financially damages others and how it can be stopped.

You know what financially damages many companies? Ugly people. What we consider ugly people in our society are scorges that could fix themselves with the medical technology available to them but choose not to do so.

When I see an ugly person working somewhere, I take my business elsewhere. Why would I do business or buy something from a business that cares so little for the apperance of their employees that they openly allow ugly people to represent them?

Ugly people make other normal looking people feel bad and think bad thoughts about ugliness. It's upsetting. Most people can't stand ugly people.

These ugly people could have had plastic surgery done and make themselves more presentable to the general populace; that option is freely available to them. Do they take it? Most ugly people don't; they just persist in their ugliness like it's okay.

Well, it isn't okay. Ugly people affect the bottom line of companies much more than most realize.

Dang, I am surprised by that number honestly. I just would think that the people who know the severity of complications that obesity increases would be more inclined to avoid it.

I work in health care. I'd guess over 50% of the employees are obese as well. Overweight (and obese) people are everywhere. Even in health care.

It is the truth, no denying it. If it were me I would prefer them be in better shape. They don't have to be GSP or anything, but i'm not gonna be too happy about hiring someone who is morbidly obese(Although you take what you can get sometimes)

I am not saying it is the norm. From my observations from working with them the past 4yrs, I am pretty sure that in the case of at least half of them they left working in the hospital because at their size it was too physically taxing. I love each and every one of them, all are great employees and none of them are lazy, but they most definitely are physically so. They will not lift or move anything and their size is used as a crutch. Among one of our duties is teaching CPR/FA to teachers and administrators in schools all over the place. I am their boss and they will call me(when I am working somewhere else) and ask me to run over to where they are to load or unload the CPR dummies. I am not joking, they literally refuse to physically lift or move anything and will interrupt the day of their boss to ask him to do it for them. I usually do it if it is not too much of a hindrance, just so it doesn't create a problem. If I had it my way, it would be in their work contract that they had to be physically able and willing to lift heavy things(50lbs+) on occasion.

I do not think it should be an exclusionary factor in hiring, but in my workplace it is used as a crutch.

Oh, I see, so fat people have to do something about their very nasty fatness but ugly people don't have to do anything about their disturbing ugliness?

To hell with that. Ugly people don't have to be ugly any more than fat people have to be fat. Just as these fatties can be forced to lose weight or not get a job or lose a job; ugly people can be forced to get some reletively inexpensive plastic surgery to make them more pleasing to normal people or they too can lose their jobs.

Being ugly is not healthy and leads to shorter lives, more mental illness costing companies many millions of dollars annually, etc...

You are constantly thinking about how ugly you are and why people can't stand to look at you and you develop self-esteem issues which leads directly to reduced productivity, due to feelings of depression, in the workplace.

I know some fat people that are so physically strong it's scary. It's like they have fat molecules running directly to their neuro-transmitters and deleviring the fat energy straight to their bodies quicker and more efficently than a needle does for a "hairon" junkie.

I mean, some fatties are comic-book strong.

You just likely have found yourself some really lazy fatties or they are just taking advantage of you and tricking you into moving things for them because you are a bit dim-witted.

  • This thread has me itching to sucker punch somebody (prefferably a fat ass). Fat people are easier on the knuckles-- its like punching jello, then you hit the bottom of the bowl. I usually hit em with pepper spray with my left then rabbit punch (smokers and drinkers) in the kidney area. When they pull thier hands down i get a haymaker in. Anybody want to taser some (racial slur) dbags later tonight?

I'm making a good bit of sense. Let's delve into the issue at hand of why you believe that fatties and hospitals don't mix. You made some good comparisons and contrasts such as meth mouths working for dentists wouldn't be wise.

But, what does being fat have to do with working at a hospital and how is that harmful to their bottom line other than an arbitrary determination by judges of other people, like you, saying it is so.

I say ugly people, due to their diminished self-worth and lack of self-esteem are much more of a negative on the functioning of a hospital than a fatty. Ugly people are oftentimes in dark moods and most of the time don't communicate well with others and tend to be introverted and don't really help with the flow of a workday in a hospital.

In short, they are a drag and a bore and are always at the phychiatrist trying to figure out why the feel so bad about themselves. Ugly people cause issues all over the world.

Think about it. Do you want to go to a hospital and see some ugly hag or freakish looking dude there as an employee? I surely don't. I go to a hospital when I feel bad; I don't want to be made to feel worse by being subjected to uglies.

I think people like you and I should be the ones to determine who is too fat or too ugly to have jobs. We know what we are talking about and understand the world and how it functions better than most. Therefore, we are qualified to be judges.

I am just making the logical jump from fat to ugly. Both types have medical and mental issues. Ugly people can become so infatutated with their ugliosty and from being mocked their whole lives by good looking people that they are a strain on hospitals and insurance companies due to nerve issues and mental health issues and stuff like that.

And, just like fatties, all it would take would be just a little bit of incentive on their part to change their looks but, do they do it? NO.

They just don't care, just like fatties don't seem to care.

  • A question to the people in favor of this:

Say you're diagnosed with a life threatening disease that requires you to go to a hospital. Would you rather your doctor be of mediocre medical knowledge but in good shape or have a vast expanse of medical knowledge and be obese? Seems like a no brainer to me.

To automatically remove a person from the discussion in terms of hiring is ridiculously stupid. Obesity does not affect your job performance. Who cares about the "message" they send as long as they're saving more lives than their physically fit counterparts?

All things being equal, I could see preferring the physically fit employee over the obese one but we all know things are never equal like that.

I think the argument that the Nazi's, who like to cull the herd of the unfit and unworthy, are making is that fatties have health issues and insurance companies don't like having to pay out money.

Additionally, they are making the case that sick people coming to hospital don't like seeing fat people helping others because fat people can't help themselves, or something like that.

I feel the same way about ugly people and yearn for the day when I won't be subjected to their hideosity when I leave my home or enter a business or go to a hospital. So far, no one has argued the case that being a fatty makes you intellectually inferior but, I'm sure it won't be long before a judge does attempt to argue that.

Makes total sense. Ugly obviously is obviously one of the primary factors in CVD, insulin resistance, various types of cancer, fatty liver disease, etc. The attractiveness of your face also physically affects your ability to do your job and ugly people statistically miss significantly more work.

Can you tell me a "dangerous lifestyle" as pervasive and significant to the problem as obesity? Smoking, not anymore and many hospitals already refuse to hire smokers. Drinking, nope. I am not saying I agree, but as someone who works directly with the issue, I can see why some facilities are doing it.
