Impact assistant coaching moves

We take a look at the five biggest assistant coaching hires as they relate to the national recruiting landscape.

  • Barton, what is your feeling on the impact of the Ron Aiken hiring at Oregon. We are all excited to see what Lubick will do out on the trail, but also feel positive about Aiken lending instant NFL credibility to the staff. Does his coaching history and NFL chops help land some slam pigs for Oregon?

  • Jimbo with his Ace hires once again.

  • I'll be interested to see how FSU does on the field with all the new coaches.

Barton, I know he's not going to show up on the national radar as a hire, but do you have any thoughts on Anthony Midget for Penn State?

  • Anthony Midget is a really good young Coach originally from south florida. He made a presence in Florida as a defensive coach at Virginia Tech and Georgia State. Hes a very knowledgable coach and was one heck of a college player for the Hokies

  • I hate to pick, but you forgot Roy Manning.

Definitely like the hire. Anytime you get a successful NFL coach, that is going to resonate with recruits. The question with NFL guys is how hard are they going to work on the recruiting trail. With Aiken, he's already cut his teeth in college so he should be prepared to dive back in. With any other program, I would say this hire - purely from a recruiting perspective - is a ho-hum kind of addition. But Oregon has a track record of doing well with coaches like this because of a unique approach to recruiting.

Brewster tweeted today that he'll be getting into Miami. He's gonna be a kid in a candy store down there. Should be fun to see what he can accomplish.

Yeah, tough for me to really speak to what he'll do but his resume has the makings of being a star. Young guy who played the game at a high level on the college and played in the NFL. A lot to like about that hire.

  • You forgot MSU's pickup of offensive guru and early round draft talent developer Jim Bollman. How did that not make the list???

Brewster better get ready to drink some Brews cause S. Fla is going to give him some headaches cause Miami Football is going to be like their Basketball team and really surprise some people this year.

An average team will benefit record wise from a bad schedule and still go 8-4

We've heard some great things. Bill Curry thinks he'll be an excellent recruiter for us.

That should have a much bigger on-field impact than recruiting impact. The moves listed above are based strictly on recruiting.

Barton do you think Hoke's NFL aspirations will lead to more coaches at Michigan running away?
