In order to drive a car

  • You need to take an eye test, take a written exam, and file every couple of years. You also need to carry insurance for your car or else it is illegal.
To get a gun, I can go a gun show and present a hunters safety course test from who knows how long ago if they even request that.

Should it make more sense that you need to have more testing to get a drivers license than it does to get a gun?

  • Honestly, there should be more regulations for driving IMO. A mandatory defensive driving course and retesting every 5 years minimum. Way too many sh!tty drivers out there.

I would agree to that as well.I live in Florida, that should say it all.

  • There is no constitutional amendment guaranteeing your right to drive a car.

Why you hate America so much?

Thank God. I'd hate to see people justifying their right to poorly operate a 1,500 pound asphalt missile.

That did in fact answer your question. owning a gun a right. Driving a car is a privilege.

    It doesn't answer my question.
Does it make more sense that getting/keeping a driver's license is harder than buying a gun?

No. Driving a car has proven to be far more dangerous. It should also not make much sense for what is a right to be hard to exercise that right.

Look at it like voting. It makes sense in one aspect that dumb people should not be able to vote. Voting is a right however, so we should make voting easy and accessible for all.

Voting is not a right if you are a felon. But I could be a felon and and get a gun depending on my felony.

so now you want to go off on tangents? I gave you an answer, reasons why, and a pretty reasonable comparison. You still do not seem happy. I suspect you were looking simply for people to agree with you, as opposed to a real answer.

How is that a tangent when my original premise was ...... never mind.
I did not bring up the tangent you are complaining about

I brought up the voting comparison, and you go off on a tangent that felons are not allowed to vote, yet in some cases felons can own guns (though most cannot). That is certainly a tangent to your "question"

But you agree that no felons are allowed to vote but some felons are allowed to buy guns?

Buying a gun is a right however, so we should let all felons buy guns, but not let felons vote.... I guess I was the one who went on the tangent.

most felons are not allowed to own a gun. If you change your question to should all instead of just most felons no longer have the right to own a gun, then sure I'll go along with that.

If I asked that in order to get a gun, you should be subject to more testing, would you agree to that?

  • I don't like the testing every blank years unless there's a point to it. Like if you got a ticket this many times etc., but not just mandatory fit every person.

Just wanted to point out that in the state I was born and raised, there was no circumstances you could vote as a felon but could buy a gun depending on the circumstance (IF THEY EVEN CHECKED)

Why not? It only takes one first mistake to kill a lot of people on a polluted thoroughfare. Plus, why should you get to drive for the rest of your life after passing a less-than-stellar exam performed by a uninterested government employee at the age of 16.

Yeah, so if you've had a mistake you should retake it. If you haven't had one in five years, you don't retake it until you have a semi-big mistake.

    That's just me though.
