In order to drive a car

Yeah, so if you've had a mistake you should retake it. If you haven't had one in five years, you don't retake it until you have a semi-big mistake.

    That's just me though.

But that first mistake could be a horrific accident that gets many people killed. If it could be prevented by reupping your skill set, what's the harm?

  • I guess that's right. Just people won't respond to it at all IMO. But they can either drive or walk..

It would require making the test more difficult IMO. And the required defensive driving course would be a big help.

It actually looks like you are agreeing with my thread while trying to make fun of it.

Sorry, I thought you were being being sarcastic every time. My apologies. I never start threads so that alone should show how drunk I am.

Driver safety is something I think needs MAJOR change in this country. Personally, I think there should be a second tier of testing in order to own and operate vehicles that surpass a certain power threshold. I remember after Ferrari released the Enzo that nearly half had been wrecked (due to user error) in only 6 months. Some people like to say that if you can afford something you should be allowed to own it. I say that's bupkis. You can't fly a plane without a license, I think supercars and high-end sports cars should work in a similar fashion. Just because you're rich doesn't mean you can safely operate a Bugatti Veyron.

I agree with that. I think WAYYYY more stringent testing before anyone owns a gun would be a great idea.
You give examples of how drivers are very dangerous and drivers have to go through WAY MORE testing than gun owners. I am for more testing for both.

  • The ratio of children finding a gun and killing themselves or their friends accidentally is way higher than a child finding car keys and killing someone.

  • I'm a huge 2nd amendment advocate but I think it would be a good idea to have some sort of standard class, range day mental test. That you have to renew every so often.

I don't think it will curb gun violence at all but it would be a good idea.

The moral of gub ownership is to be a responsible gun owner.... That's all there really is to it.... Lock your sht up!

But you agree that no felons are allowed to vote but some felons are allowed to buy guns?

Just for the sake of argument - I would disagree with your premise. Voting is a Constitutional Right, Federally guaranteed. The process of voting is a matter of state law. Even federal elections are governed by the laws in force in each of the individual states. Each state determines under what circumstances a convicted felon can or cannot vote. These laws vary rather significantly from one state to another.

Two states impose no restrictions whatsoever on voting by convicted felons. Maine and Vermont permit felons to vote, even if they are imprisoned. Even upon a felony conviction, the voting rights of residents of these two New England states remain in full force.

The District of Columbia and 11 states permit felons to vote once they are released from a term of incarceration. Additionally, felons on probation can vote in these jurisdictions.

The most common type of law regarding felon voting exists in 20 states. Under this version of the law, a felon automatically obtains a restoration of voting rights when his or her entire sentence is completed. This means the convicted felon is no longer incarcerated, or on parole, probation, or supervised release.

You need to take an eye test, take a written exam, and file every couple of years. You also need to carry insurance for your car or else it is illegal. To get a gun, I can go a gun show and present a hunters safety course test from who knows how long ago if they even request that.

Should it make more sense that you need to have more testing to get a drivers license than it does to get a gun?

it would make even more sense if the same process was utilized inorder to VOTE for the US President.

but who the hell am i to say, its only the President of the world's most powerful country ? coffee

lets get our priority's straight. ID to vote for lawmakers, education, the border, the budget, & worry about...
guns, global warming, baseball players on steriods, and Manti Teo's fake girlfriend once the important tasks are completed. shrug

  • I don't call for the banning of anything; I just want there to be more testing, regulation, and licensing when it comes to owning and operating higher-end and potentially more dangerous things. We do it for all sorts of things already, like flying a plane, going skydiving, going SCUBA diving, etc. The only thing more testing does is (a) force people to take more safety courses, which is always a good thing and (b) makes sure that incompetent people can't have access to such things. Not 100% obviously, we know that, but it would help curb the issues a helluva lot, way more than just banning them would.

And quite frankly, the only people that would complain about requiring more safety and training to operate things like this are people that don't think they would be able to pass said competency exams, and if that's the case, you're exactly the kind of person I don't want having access to stuff like this.

It does make sense. More people are killed each year in car accidents than guns. It isn't even close.

Actually, it is very close and some studies project deaths from guns will surpass death from auto accidents within 5 years.

If thati s true, then deaths by automobile accident are on the decline as violent crime has been on a decline since 1994.

Gun violence has went down over the last 10-15 years nearly 50%…(if I remember right)

I live in Westminster right now. Full of asians. I don't want to ever hear anyone else complain of shitty drivers.

In 1966 I arrived in Taipei Taiwan ... took a cab - a Datsun bluebird - to the Grand Hotel. I cannot begin to tell you how many times my life passed before my eyes. I thought I was going to die. That was the most frightening ride I had ever experienced before or since.
