Ohio State. They've already taken a step back.

    2010 0-1
    2011 6-7
    2012 bowl ineligible

This, not to mention the coaching change in 2016 or so will be critical. They'll need a true program rebuilder, like a Saban if he wasn't too focused on crystal ball number 6 by then.

  • Stepping back- Michigan State. No body benefited more from rich rod being at Mich. Know that hoke is going after bigger physical players state will be left with scraps. Nebraska- just not impressed with their recruiting. I guess I expected more from them.

I'll be in the minority here but Auburn. TCU, Oklahoma, USC

Auburn because I have been unimpressed with their recruiting TCU because they will take a minute to adjust to a bigger conf OK will take a step back compared to their high standards USC because the hurt of the sanctions will start getting to them now.

Can you explain how the sanctions are going to hurt USC more than they would have last year?

We went 10-2 with 50 or so players that actually played any significant time.

We Red Shirted around 25, who will all be there this year, and we brought in4 or 5 EE's and will add another 12 in fall.

Unless we just get killed by injuries, I don't see it. Our biggest challenge is to stay under 76 players, but we are there now, and only lose 14 players after this season and 14 or 15 next year

Maybe in 2014 we will be pretty young, but we were young last season and were playing well by the end of tyhe year.

Not saying you are wrong, anything can happen, but last year was the thinnest we will ever be.

taking a step back or returning to their mediocre status. I'm saying Boise St., Penn St., and possibly Oregon. Oregon is the maybe because I think they will have a nice little run for the next five years or so, but after that I see them returning to the mean. Penn St. and Boise are kind of obvious to me.

but butt buttt penn state is landing super 1337 awesome recruits

Although to be fair with JoePa they basically were mediocre

  • I vote Wiscy, BB lost a large majority of his staff. Finding someone who will put up with him, let alone be able to coach football is no easy task

Actually, I think PSU could go either way, some think that a breath of fresh air is exactly what they need to regain promenance. I think this year and maybe next will be rough, but the 2014 team should tell the tale...

Have you payed attention at all to PSU's recruiting this year, no step backward is being taken.

A couple of four stars? If anything your post reiterated his point.

  • PSU has maybe never gotten off to a better start in recruiting. I think the #1 TE, #4 QB and two good four star players is a pretty good haul so far. Have u payed attention to PSU recruiting over the last few years they rarely had a Top 20 or top 15 class, so far we are ranked 13th with only four commitments. How would getting better players than the last staff was getting the past few years mean we are taking a step backwards?

Just saying that some believe Penn State is slipping off the radar. I am not one of them. However, a fan responding with "Yeah right, we've got a couple four stars!" was just kind of a "Damn, maybe they are slipping" kinda moment for other fans watching from the outside.

Some, but not much. Patterson is a winner.

agreed. I wanted ARK to get him after Nutt.

Agree on some but not for several years at the least .. Do you think Patterson leaves anytime in the near future? or does their move to the BIG 12 solidify him at TCU?

He's suppose to have had offers for bigger schools that he has turned down, so I would guess thats a good sign for TCU. Still, I have to think that if a big boy came calling (bama, LSU, USC) etc.

i mean everybody expected us to fail and we came out of the box with 4 good commitments, on field product is yet to be seen, but so far we've already improved our recruiting compared to the last few years( and we've heard we will most likely get anywhere from 4 to 6 more commits before our spring game) so that's why he said we arent slipping and only basing it off recruiting but we appear to be improving, not slipping.

I mean that specifically about how he's claiming their 4 man class of 4 stars should slow anyone's mind about them sliding. But obviously your devil's advocate routine will always work.

I would think this too. He has had the success to move on to bigger, better things. To each their own i suppose .. He must like it there. FWIW, it's a beautiful school.

Dantonio has recruited very well for us. UM will get their players but that is nothing out of the ordinary.

A better argument for MSU stepping back would be our senior leadership on offense leaving.

    Stepping Back:

BSU: They will not be having undefeated and one loss seasons every year. Even the Big Least is more competition than they are used too, they will still be good, and they will likely win that conference more often than not, but they will not be in the discussion for outside shots at the national championship.

Okie State: They will go back to 8 or so wins a season. They lost a lot of talent and their recruiting has been underwhelming.

Stanford: Loss of Luck, and other talent, USC resurgence, and Oregon will keep Stanford out of the picture in the Pac 12... much like OSU above, its back to 8 win seasons being "good"

South Carolina: Once Lattimore leaves, they will go back to being average...They will win a good game or two, but they have missed their time to make a shot for the SEC

Wisconsin: They will continue to hang around, but 8-9 wins will be the norm, they will find two conference games to lose, and possibly more.

Michigan State: They lose alot of leadership and talent, they will move back in the pack, much like Wisconsin. The Big 10 looks to have one team that will be clearly better than the others, one that is a little better than the others, and then a bunch of teams that are fairly well matched average teams.

TCU: They are moving into a better conference and they will be playing better teams week in week out. They will win some big games but they will lose them as well, and they will lose some games that they would not have previously, because its hard to keep focused week to week when playing better teams. And frankly the Big 12 conference schedule is now one of the most difficult because they play ALL of the teams.

Vandy: They have had a few good seasons lately, and have performed above expectations, they will return to mediocrity.

Miss State: See Vandy, only they have to play in the division that counts in the SEC, meaning back to mediocrity

Disagree with your view on South Carolina. Maybe if we wouldnt have finished the way we did last year without Lattimore and if we didnt sign another good back in Mike Davis I'd agree. I think we will continue to compete for the East with UGA and UF while being a top 25 program. Top 10 program, no..top 25, yes.
