I believe that is because doing things like this gives the appearance that the govt is really going after "big business". So they can say hey we're taxing them more and you're making more. But if stuff costs more and businesses are making the same margin, the only one affected is the consumer. But it sounds good to the "middle class" and I don't think they really look past the headline
