Introducing 247Composite

247Sports breaks down the 247Composite, which factors rankings and ratings from all recruiting media networks equally.

  • does the compesite score translate to the equivalent of the 247 score? .98 = 98 or does a .9475 = 94.75

ex. Can I compare whether the other recruiting services rank a recruit higher/lower than 247 if the composite is higher/lower than 247's score

  • @InTresslWeTrust - No, you can't compare the two numbers directly, and it's a reason we chose to use the decimal system instead of a number between 70 and 100.

Ratings from all services have pockets of players at very similar skill levels. The players in our 247Rankings from 8th all the way to 24th are all rated "98". The Composite rating, in contrast, is based foremost on a player's "rank" on each service, and as such, those same players ranked 8th to 24th all have a different composite index for 247 that gets factored into the industry composite rating.

A better comparison of 247 evaluation to the industry is to look at where we rank a player compared to his 247Composite rank.

  • I'm going to throw in my 2 cents, not that it matters but why would I want to have rankings that include services which are HORRIBLE. The whole reason I use Rivals and 247 is because I trust THEIR evaluations. By doing this you somewhat discredit 247 if you use these as your own "team rankings"

If you are still going to have 247's own Team Rankings than this is a mute point of course but when I pull up Team Rankings I see this composite.

    tigerinatx

  • you should be able to switch between composite and 247's ratings. so if i go to click a recruit, i should be able to click something to see his composite rating, or click and see where 247 rates him.

The 247Sports ranking/rating is in the upper right hand corner, ahead of the 247Composite. Both display on player pages.

We are flattered you think highly of us. Our rankings are still in tact and are factored into the composite equally with the others.

Check out Tahaan Goodman's profile page. The 247Sports rankings and ratings are in the upper right hand corner with the 247Composite right underneath.

What I would like to see is the team rankings are similar to the Top 247. So that one could view the 247 rankings and the Composite Team Rankings.

  • Tossing in my comment- About two weeks ago I worked up a little excel formula giving a composite score for the University of Arizona recruits by using the rankings of 247, Scout, Rivals, and ESPN to get an "aggrregate average" for these kids.
The result was simillar to what I see using the new 247 Composite. In general, Arizona has four recruits who have at least one 4-star rating over the four services, so the scores on my excel and on the 247 composite tended to raise the overall scores of the list.

Pretty interesting, and I think quite a bit more accurate than what we have had.

  • I couldn't care less what other sites' ratings are; is there a way to just turn off the composite? There's a reason I subscribe to 247 instead of the other guys.

  • I understand these rankings and appreciate someone doing this for subscribers, I just hope the regular 247 rankings will be the ones a non-subscriber will see if they check the site. Those are the ones I left what I thought was an inferior site for. They are the fairest rankings in an educated consumer's mind, not the ones that are derived from input from other sites. Might as well go back to the other site if this one is going to reflect the same poor rankings.

  • This is an absolute joke.. Adding in ESPN to your composite?

I mean, we have 17 4****'s and that makes us 10th? Lol, call it sour grapes bc my team is low but wtf guys?

Anyways, I'll be looking at the old way y'all did the rankings bc this is crap.

Sorry to be an a-hole, just how I feel and most on the LSU site share my sentiments.

(Sorry if I came off a little strong)

    I'm sorry but.......

the rankings are a joke. Im not going to argue but 17 4 stars and LSU is 10th? Thats a joke....

  • Don't like it

  • ESPN is lazy and are anything but recruiting experts, only the big three dedicated recruiting services should be used in the composite IMO. ESPN isn't going to be quoting 247 composites anyway, other news organizations may prefer a 247 composite without including ESPN. I assume getting quoted is one of the main reasons for this move, not much else makes sense... most of us are here for 247 expertise in evaluation. JMHO.

I'll have to agree here. ESPN's rankings are pretty bad.
