Best dogs ever IMO. We've had two: the first one we got while still in college, lived to be fourteen, and was like our first kid, and the second we got after the first died at fourteen [while wife pregnant with our second child].
They are a little on the wild side when young and need a lot of exercise....they will run and run and run. Sweet temprament and very good with kids [although because of size and rambunctiousness, can inadvertantly knock a very young child/toddler down...but I think that's probably true with any large dog. I think they have an unjustified rep for not being the sharpest tool in the shed, but ours were smart and were very quick to be housebroken.
The only caveat: do not get one of you are not going to give it lots and lots of exercise.
