Is Bama that good, or is Michigan that bad?

  • dustelli said...

Michigan was not a top 20 team and Bama is a top 3 team. Expectations where way to high for Michigan based on last season where every bounce went their way. That includes avoiding top team in the big ten and backing into a BCS game where the opponent ended up being Va Tech. On top of that it was a real bad match-up for them. Hoke and his recruiting has them headed in the right direction, but it won't be this year.

    Wrong.

  • Bama is really that good. And in 2 weeks everyone will believe. Michigan may have not been top 10 good, but they are top 15 good. And they were blown off the field.

Agreed. Alabama has the best College OL I have ever seen and Michigan's DL was the big question mark. I doubt that the DL gets spanked that badly again all year.

Maybe in the first few years when we began to dominate you could say well maybe the other team just sucked but by now people come on we been mudstomping good teams that still go on to have great seasons i wouldnt judge Michigan on this game. Theirs not many if any teams that are on our lvl.

Take it easy on Michigan being a terrible team. Like a lot of people ITT have said, Denard is not a guy that should be throwing 30 times a game. His numbers should be around 25 passes 15 runs. Bama made them one dementional, which is our defensive staff's plan every game. Why there weren't many designed runs with Denard early baffles me.

I still think Michigan will have a solid season probably around 9-3. They just don't match up well with teams that have better athletes on defense than they have on offense.

Agree. Everyone should've seen it coming.

Vegas shafted me by giving Michigan 14 1/2 points.

  • Bama's O-line was opening up huge holes all night long. They basically recreated the line of scrimmage on damn near every run play. That O-line is great no doubt BUT Michigan's D-line was way to light to even hold the point of attack in the first place. To my eyes Bama will be a great running team but will struggle when Mccarron has to win the game for them. They will not just run over LSU like they just did Michigan.I'll still take LSU over Bama right now.

As far as Michigan goes I question the game plan laid out by Hoke but I still think Michigan hit a home run hiring him.Denard should have never been asked to throw the ball as much as he did.He was never going to beat Bama with his arm.Gardner was getting behind Bama's DB's all night long but Denard just couldn't get the ball where it needed to be.Michigan is still a 15-25 range team though.Bama was just a bad style matchup for Michigan.

    Bama is very good

    How good ? TBD

Wouldn't shock me to see them repeat

But in 13' and 14' FSU gonna be ready for them

    Not scared at all anymore

Our defense is set to remain in the top 4 nationally for the forseeable future

Once Coker or Winston take over at QB we gonna be insane

Also Benjamin and Greene are set to explode on the scene over the next 2-3 years

    Meh

spot on. luckily for them, the B1G is not that good and being okay to good will get you to a BCS bowl game. Same goes for UW, MSU, and Nebby. No separation.

In regards to Hoke's game plan, I think it was about as good as we could've expected.

Given Bama's DL and our transitioning OL, there was no way in hell we were going to be able to run all over them, even if we had Fitz Toussaint playing. We saw throughout the game that neither Rawls nor Smith could get much yardage in the running game. I said this going in, and I'll say it now - the only way we were going to beat Bama would've been through the air.

I think they had to lay a lot of faith in Denard completing throws. There were multiple times where he simply missed open Michigan receivers. If the coaches have planned out to the point of getting those receivers open, it just becomes a matter of execution, and Denard clearly didn't execute. If those downfield shots are hit more regularly, then Jeremy Gallon's 77-yd reception doesn't just stand out as the lone good long pass play, and it starts to open things up for shorter passes.

In an ideal world, our OL and RBs would be talented to the point where we wouldn't have to ask Denard to throw as much as we did, but given where our team is now, putting the ball in the air was the best chance we had to compete. I think the coaches put together a pretty decent game plan, but the players simply didn't execute.

  • Bama has the ability to make a lot of teams look bad; HOWEVER, Michigan looked VERY VERY VERY overrated. To me that win by Bama was great but not at all impressive.

  • My #1 thought during the game this is the best combination of QB, OL and RB's I have ever seen a Nick Saban team put on the field.

This may well be the best offense, period, one of his teams has ever had.

Does that mean they go 14-0, no as you have to play the games, but they are starting from a GREAT place this year considering Saban's defense will get better throughout the season as some of the lesser experienced guys get more game reps.

Denard should have been run more imo.He barely took off in the game.He tried to give his best Joe Montana impression though.Michigan had a ton of open WR's and he just could not get it there.I was talking more designed runs for Denard more so than for the RB's.Michigan was probably going to lose regardless but I'd rather lose doing what I do best.Running is what the kid does best.

  • Bama is that good. Their OL is essentially an NFL OL. Yeldon and Fowler really impressed me.

Michigan will win 9-10 games this year despite the tough schedule, and Bama will crush everybody on their schedule. I'd like to think LSU would give them a game, but I don't think so.

  • Bama is the best team in the country, hands down. Any team playing them would've gotten beaten soundly imo.

OTOH, Meatchicken was wayyyy overrated. Saban could've hung 70+ on them if he didn't take his foot off the pedal.
