It appears from all accounts that Lawson is LEGIT and is perhaps a top 25 talent. Seems to have ideal size, strength and explosiveness.
With that said, I attended the Georgia AAAAA 1st Round Playoff Game between Walton (Tyren Jones-RB, Brandon Kublanow- Oline, Parker McLeod-QB) on Nov 11, 2011. At the time, I wasn't aware of Lawson and he did nothing during the game for me to notice him as Walton lead 41-7 at halftime and Tyren Jones had ~310 All-Purpose Yards and 5 TDs.....by halftime.
Again, he seems to have elite talent and I will see him play against Walton this 2012 Season on Oct 26th.
Lawson is #52 in the white jersey/red pants in the attached Walton vs Milton highlights.

He is borderline, I would have him just around 20-25, but I could see him getting pushed down after senior seasons. Camp warrior, but like BBD said, he can disappear on the field. Part of that is because Milton sucks and he is easy to concentrate on, though.
ESPN has him ridiculously high. Top 5 is much too high, especially having him over Montravious.

He's my favorite DE in the south this year.. He might not be as polished as some of the others, but his upside is pretty ridiculous. I think he fits better as an OLB than a pure edge rusher in a 4-3. Not sure what BVG has instore for him.. Liner and Lawson is a pretty nasty DE combo, I have to admit. I mean, they're no Bullard and Fowler from last year, but..

Come on man.. It's a potentially good pair of DE's. You just took it way overboard. Didn't that 04 team have a first round QB and two top five RB's? The SEC wasn't as strong as it is now either, although it was still the best conference overall. UF had Zook, Bama had Shula, Arky had Nutt, UT had a down Fulmer, USCe still had Holtz, MSU had Croom, Hell, Richt actually looked like he was going to win championships at UGA and dominate the league etc.. The conference looks alot different these days.
AU still needs to identify decent LB's and a decent DB unit. The DL has some nice talent and should be improved. Loeffler and Martinez were WTF hires, although I do expect BVG to improve that defense immediately.
I love last years UF class and this years looks like it'll be even better. Im still not ready to say we're building 08 UF, that too would just be silly at this point. Every big time SEC program recruits very well. Several teams appear to be reloading or rebuilding it's rosters with loads of talent. Coaching and development is basically what will seperate the top 4 or 5 recruiting teams in the SEC in the next year or two. Might be smart to ride it out before proclaiming greatness, like 04 AU.
