  • It is, Dawson just should have taken visits before he committed. Even just a week after committing to Michigan, he wanted to visit a few southern schools.

No visit policies rarely work. Kids will make visits, if they truly want to.

It rarely works if a coaching staff bends for certain prospects and isn't consistent with the policy. Coach Hoke has been consistent with the policy and isn't afraid to lose a prospect if the prospect isn't 100% Michigan.

I know what you guys are going to say, "this is a kids only chance to take free visits!" Well, take them before you commit. It isn't a difficult concept. The fact of the matter is the coaches are committing to a prospect too, not just the prospect to the coaching staff, so when a player commits, the coaches commit to stop recruiting other prospects from that position and are counting on that prospect being in the class.

Iowa used to do this a lot too and I loved it. Lately they have been letting guys take visits other places (J. Johnson, Kenney, Hill, etc.). I fully agree with you though, if you want to visit schools, do it before you commit. It might even help your decision some.

    I guess so. Fair enough.

Does CBH allow recruits committed elsewhere to visit UM? If so, isn't that a bit hypocritical?

Agree as well but I do think the policy is more harmful than helpful in the long run. It will cause future Michigan recruits to not commit to Michigan early, leaving Michigan with a lot of gray area in the class deeper in the year. It will lead to kids just doing what Dawson did, decommiting. They're gonna take visits if they want and nothing can be done about it. Is it worth it to lose a kid because of a visit? You're basically giving up the fight. It's inevitable that at some point the rule will be bent for a certain guy or 2 and that will cause friction or a complete drop of the policy. What happens if the class has a good sized number of kids that want to take visits? I'm talking 6-7 kids. Is Hoke going to tell them all goodbye? Highly doubtful. The kids have the power and coaches should just get used to it.

Also am not a fan of coaches setting this rule for their kids but yet want kids committed to other schools to visit them. Hypocritical much? Don't put a rule on your kids that you don't honor with kids committed elsewhere. Doesn't matter if Michigan actually gets kids committed elsewhere to visit, the point is that they are attempting to. They go hand in hand in this case.

How would you feel if a commit of yours was flirting with other schools, then come NSD he switches and leaves your staff with no backup plan. How would you feel?

The no-visit policy is a great one.

Michigan had around 10 2013 commits in a 24 hour span back in February. They all have stuck, albeit Dawson didn't.

Coach Hoke makes sure the recruit FULLY understands what it means to be committed to Michigan, what it means to be a Michigan Man, etc. before they commit to Michigan.

So it helps a recruit realize this is a serious decision, and helps them stay committed to the University.

Why is it hypocritical? If a coach doesn't have the same policy, he isn't doing anything against his policy.
