If u commited to another school can u visit UM?

Yes, as long as you are truly interested and aren't just going for a free visit.

A bunch of kids tried to take a free visit for the Ohio State-Michigan game last year and Hoke denied them.

It is, Dawson just should have taken visits before he committed.

We have a kid who has been committed for months from Florida who still hasn't visited. But he made it out to Minnesota this past weekend. I don't get why kids would commit without ever having visited a place. He's still a PSU "commit" and at this point we're just hoping to get a visit. It's weird.

    I guess so. Fair enough.

Does CBH allow recruits committed elsewhere to visit UM? If so, isn't that a bit hypocritical?

    Why would it be hypocritical?
If there is mutual interest, any coach will and should pursue.
This is what happened with Dawson.

There is nothing hypocritical with telling recruits that if you take an official visit elsewhere, we will no longer hold your spot in favor of someone else who wants the spot more.

    Nothing more, nothing less.

Edit: Also, by turning away other potential commits, it shows the staff is committed to its recruits even if that recruit may be higher rated. The staff showed their confidence in that player and followed through with their promise.

That's fair. I don't understand the need for Michigan to do it, but I get that the B1G does things differently.

Hypothetically speaking though... I'm all for coaches recruiting kids, even if they are committed elsewhere. However, I do find it hypocritical that coaches who don't allow their committed recruits to visit elsewhere while committed, but pursue recruits who are committed somewhere else and allow them to visit their school. I understand the strategy, but in terms of CFB recruiting morality... If CBH or other coaches with similar policies expect their recruits to honor their commitments to their school, shouldn't these coaches respect the commitments of recruits committed to other schools? Or is this not about morality, but a way to just lock in recruits while actively pursuing others.

It rarely works if a coaching staff bends for certain prospects and isn't consistent with the policy. Coach Hoke has been consistent with the policy and isn't afraid to lose a prospect if the prospect isn't 100% Michigan.

I know what you guys are going to say, "this is a kids only chance to take free visits!" Well, take them before you commit. It isn't a difficult concept. The fact of the matter is the coaches are committing to a prospect too, not just the prospect to the coaching staff, so when a player commits, the coaches commit to stop recruiting other prospects from that position and are counting on that prospect being in the class.

agreed unfortunately kids get caught up in the moment. I like the policy and good for UM..

    How does that make sense?

If a commit visits, by way of that policy, the coaching staff would not consider him committed to any school...

  • Yep.. having a LB who we didn't offer commit to MSU, and having a kid that has switched states twice in a couple years, and just had his father die want to take visits means Cass is no longer a pipeline.

How would you feel if a commit of yours was flirting with other schools, then come NSD he switches and leaves your staff with no backup plan. How would you feel?

You must not follow SEC recruiting closely. Happens every year to every team pretty much down here. I guess we are used to it.

I dont believe so. Conley is talking about visiting Oregon, but he is not dropped nor is he lower ranked.

Yea that's another thing that does not happen down here. Last years Bama/LSU and this years Bama/LSU is literally the who's who of recruits. Our commits on their sidelines last year and their commits will be on ours this year on their visits. Recruits from all over the nation committed everywhere will be there and from reports our coaches love it.

Nah I know who he is. It was some guy I'd never heard of who was the lowest ranked player in your class, fell out of your class with some lame excuse. Not sure how I could look up the name. Like I said, I could be wrong but I remember hearing this like 2-3 months ago.

Our lowest ranked recruit is and has been a long snapper and he is still commited. Last year an olinemen from Cincy decommited and decided he wanted to stay closer to home and his gf. But he wasnt rated that low. idk

I know what you are thinking of, but that never happened. It was just a huge rumor that was spread by some salty OSU writers.

You are thinking of Jaron Dukes
