Is Clowney the next Julius Peppers?

  • Should be the #1 pick when he comes out next year.

  • Sure thing #1 pick. Can't pass him up.

  • Absolutely #1, I'm sure most would like to see him around 270-280 instead of the listed 255 but that's an easy fix.

    SCirish843

  • Is better than Julius Peppers now. Will kill in the league. I'm being serious. True freak of nature.

I think our DC said he played most of this year at 265 and actually played the bowl game at 273.

You may run like Hayes, but you hit like $*!#

Just imagine next year with another year in the weight program.

  • I'm confused!!!! I think he's good but I've watched the game on replay and focused on the Clowney vs Lewan and Lewan dominated him the whole game!!! Don't get me wrong that hit was AWESOME but folks don't buy all the media hype!!! How many tackles did Clowney Have???????? Answer : 4!!!

Very solid. I've grown up hating both usc and clemson but sometimes you just gotta hand it to people, kid is a beast. In terms of NFL ready and early success I'd put him behind Reggie White and Peppers but ahead of ppl like Mario Williams, Kearse, etc.

  • Only if the Raiders aren't #1. If they are, they will draft another WR.

  • Peppers doesn't take plays off. Clowney seemed to in the one game i saw him. Is that norm or aberration?

Haha...not hard to do at times when being held a ton.

He could be the #1 pick this year if he could come out.

    Don't hate

  • And not to ninja but I don't think the gap between Clowney and Stephon Tuitt is as big as people say. It's classic 4-3 vs 3-4 end with Clowney having more elite attributes but Tuitt possibly being more valuable to a NFL defense being able to move around in multiple schemes. After all, the supreme pash rusher had 13 sacks while the 3-4 end ended up with 12.

  • Can he play basketball like Peppers

facepalm_msu Lynch was better last year too.

I'm sure once that Jones kid signs with Miss St, he'll be just as good or better.

    Those plays are called containment.

Like I asked somebody in the game thread, do you measure a center or PF by the number of 3s he makes in a game?

Dude did you not pay any attention to Michigan play calling?! 95% of the runs were designed to run to the away from Clowney or to the right of the center anddddd most plays the QB scrambled to the right to counter act Clowney breathing down his neck! Lewan held his own but every play he had him held underneath the helmet, grabbed his hair, hell one time I thought he was gonna try to undress Clowney!

No, Lynch played weakside and got to pass rush a thousand times more than Tuitt. Tuitt even came out and said he was playing half speed freshman year because he didn't understand his assignments yet. Tuitt out ran all 17 of Navy's RBs 77yds at 310lbs, he's a top 3-8 pick whenever he declares.

    SCirish843

  • Will say that Peppers is the biggest "ripped" dude I've ever seen in person.

Clowney is more dominant at the same stage.

At his current weight, Clowney is like a Lawrence Taylor & Julius Peppers hybrid mutant. He is as dominant as Derrick Thomas was his senior year in 1988 when he had 27 sacks on the season.

In my opinion, Clowney is to DEs as Herschel and Bo were to RBs. Absolutely the "freakiest" I've ever seen from an athletic, fast twitch, burst perspective.

****Clowney ran a leg on the 4x100m relay team that finished 2nd at the state track meet in his senior year. I'd venture that the other 31 sprinters (4 per team, 8 teams) in the finals averaged 5'7", 5'8" and 150-160 pounds.

    Clowney is FILTHY!

I love Tuitt. Think he will give us h3ll Monday night. Might be my #2 overall pick in 2014 after Clowney.

Wish both were playing for Bama.

Thanks for posting. They came in 3rd and not 2nd as I stated previously but that is ridiculous speed for his size. Think the kid that pulled off was fastest in South Carolina that year....Brandon Sanders. I think he runs track for South Carolina. Wonder whether Sanders is faster than Damiere Byrd.

    Clowney = BOSS

are those little kids next to him? just a freak.

Right now in the NFL, a QB is the most important player next to a pass rushing DE. If a great NFL qb shows up next year, then he will go first, otherwise, Clowney will go first.

    Agree and good points.

Clowney has some things to improve and could get up to around 275-280 to be better against the run, but he is pretty damn good
