Is Damon Webb to Ohio State the beginning of the end for Hoke?

  • psubills62 said...

Probably not as much as I am now.

But this signals the "end" of Hoke as much as Kalis and Dymonte Thomas signaled the end of Meyer. JMO.

    Totally Different scenario.

Dymonte was committed to Michigan before Urban ever even got there and offered.
Kalis was committed to Ohio State then the NCAA stuff blew up, he flipped, Tressel was let go and a new coach came in.
Also, neither of those kids came from Ohio State's major pipeline school.

Those 2 weren't at a pipeline school. This would be like Hoke getting Marshon Lattimore from Glenville. It would be shocking and impressive

That's why I named two. They were both kids that Urban wanted out of Ohio, compared to one out of Cass Tech. I think two from the state can compare to one from a pipeline.

OSU fans really are obsessed with Michigan. Seems like they don't even care if they got a good prospect as long as they took a Michigan/Cass Tech kid from Hoke.

Bring this question back next year and see if it still holds water. Think OSU and Meyer may be getting played on this one. If it holds then feel free to brag and berate Michgan fans but until next February, this commitment means nothing.

Played how? We may not keep him in the end..but what's the end game for Webb by playing us?

Kalis and Dymonte Thomas were under Fickel. But I get your point.

Held MIchigan to 171 passing yards and 279 total yards of offense. 75 of those passing yards came on 1 play and 67 of rushing yards came on 1 play. Take those 2 plays away and Michy would've had 137 yards of total offense. lol

    12-0 feelsgoodman:)

Michigan had the better defense for the second year in a row despite playing a much tougher schedule. While we played Bama, ND, AF and USCe out of conference, Ohio State played Cal and UCF. But that's not the really bad news. The really bad news is that while UM's defense has gotten better each year for the past two years, OSU's has gotten worse. Yes, that is correct. Urbie has actually managed to make the defense worse since he took over for interim HC Luke Fickell.

    Total Defense (2012):
    13. Michigan
    34. Ohio State

    Total Defense (2011):
    17. Michigan
    19. Ohio State

Nobody is getting played here. The kid visited Ohio State 4 times in the last year. I was arguing with my michigan buddies about the fact that I thought Damon Webb may be the first big-time Cass Tech kid to commit to Urban and they all laughed at me.

Webb is smart enough to realize that if he wants to compete for National Championships every year then Urban Meyer and Ohio State is a better option than Brady Hoke at Michigan.

Not to mention Ohio State has been an absolute factory for pumping out NFL Dbs over the last 10-15 years. Off the top of my head:

    --Shawn Springs
    --Antoine Winfield
    --Chris Gamble
    --Donte Whitner
    --Nate Clements
    --Malcolm Jenkins
    --Kurt Coleman

What does this say about your 2012 offense then if they couldn't cross the 50 yard line 2nd half against that atrocious 35th ranked defense? I'll hang up and listen...

    buckriegs

  • It's one kid. Pump the breaks a little bit OSU fans. Yes its a player Michigan wanted and thought they had and yes he's from Cass Tech. However, he's one kid. Last time I checked there's 85 scholarship players on a team. Is it possible that Urban will be able to do this again over the coming years? Sure it is, but until he does it year in and year out I doubt any rational Michigan fan will be losing sleep over it.

We turned the ball over three times in the 2nd half. TOs were our problem all year. Of course, you are ignoring the fact that we put up 21 on you in the first half. Basically, your defense was swiss cheese when we weren't turning over the ball. And how many points did you score against our defense in the second half off those three TOs and that extremely favorable field position? Six. You scored a mere two FGs off three TOs in an entire half that was played on our side of the field. Either we have a very good defense or your offense is pathetic. Take your pick.

I'd say he's the third best player next year, behind Malik McDowell and Drake Harris.

Face the facts stupid, you lost. Sugarcoat it all you want, you got beat. You got out coaches bad in the second half. Don't forget, we shot ourselves in the foot on a few of our drives or else we could have put more points up too.

Clearly Webb wasn't looking at total defense, otherwise he would have gone to Michigan State wink_msu

    2011 total D: 6th

    2012 total D: 4th

Carry on with your discussion biggrin

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Of course we lost. By five points on the road with a backup QB. But that wasn't the discussion. The discussion was about how poor your defense has been since the Vest left Columbus and how it's gotten even worse under Urbs. Thanks for playing, though!

You guys barely beat UC-Berkeley, though. Bama would have smashed them by at least 5 TD's. I'm only bringing this up because there are some Buckeye fans who believe that they deserve a share of the crystal trophy ball.

Transitive property doesn't apply to football, and that was the beginning of the season, last three games our defense was number 2 in the country

Hell, they barely beat Indiana and Purdue. Indiana, which did not win enough games to go to a bowl game, put up 49 points on the vaunted Urbie/Fickell/Withers-led Buckeye defense. And Purdue was humiliated by Oklahoma State in their bowl game. And Urbie is hanging banners and buying the team rings to commemorate the season??? Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
