Is Dental Insurance Necessary?

I go twice a year for cleaning and x ray n thats it. It would be cheaper to pay out of pocket.
Major stuff like root canals are barely covered anyway. I'm thinking about dropping it next year.
Anybody else already doing this?

If you are single however, most dentists are more than happy that you're paying cash. They give discounts, and if you need a procedure that you cannot cover in full, a lot of them will work out payment plans. This has been my experience anyway.

I'm not single but I have a small child. My wife, child n I go to dentist regularly n brush regularly. Even if one of us gets a cavity, I can't see it being worth paying nearly $100/month for family coverage.

I'm single and its so cheap i just pay it. Its like 10 a month and makes me feel better knowing that i wont have to come out of pocket if something were to happen. I get about 1/2 of all the money i spend on my cleanings which comes to about 120 so I think its a wash and a net positive if i needed some serious work.

I pay $39 for each visit twice a year. Insurance would be a waste.

I'm at the wrong company then, lol. This ish is $90/month for spouse n children. It pays for darn near everything but I dont need anything extensive.

A lot of Dental insurance caps out at like $1,000 a year is the max they cover. If that is the case then its not worth it.

Dental is a free benefit at my job, but even if it wasn't, I would still pay for it. Along with the covered preventative care, I'd never want to be in need of insurance in case an unforeseen accident occurs.

It's all fun and games til you are carrying your kayak down your decks stairs, slip, and then bust you ass all the way down. Nothing like waking up with bruised (thought broken) ribs and chipped teeth that need caps. Not fun to pay for without insurance.

Thats about typical for comprehensive dental insurance for a family. Each company has different rates in each state and more specifically each county. For three individuals with BCBS dental would be around $30-$35 per person. Usually includes one year waiver for major dental procedures. Be careful on what is classified under major procedures. If you are prone to mouth disease of any sort(periodontal, gum, etc dental ins is more than worth it. It's necessary.

Under 40 yo not so much but after that your teeth start to break down even with the best of hygiene.
Other than cleanings I went to the dentist maybe 5 times in 45 years and now it seems like I go for major work twice a year.
I have $2K in coverage and still spent over $1K out of pocket this year.
Looks like another perfect day.
